View Full Version : Painful Realization: The Internet Was Canceled Out By Cable News Stations

The rise of the internet, social networking sites and YouTube gave the American people a great alternative news source. It made it possible for information to be spread and for anti-establishment candidates to have a chance in elections.

Unfortunately, in parallel with internet growth, cable news channels also grew. CNN was joined by Fox News, MSNBC, CSPAN, CNN Headline News, etc. This represented a major growth in the establishment's manipulative power because these stations ARE the establishment.

These 24-hour news sources have also made campaign fundraising completely irrelevant. As we saw with Mike Huckabee, artificially inflated media exposure beats any amount of money raised for advertising. Also, in the age of Tivos and DVRs, a large percentage of the population simply skips over commercials anyway.

The other alternative news source (late night television) was 100% NEUTRALIZED for the last critical month (writer's strike).

How do we counter this? Can we counter this?

The internet is still new and people have to trust it before they believe it. Obama was the #1 dem on the web, if he wins, then people will say the web helped elect Obama. I expect social networking sites to in effect eliminate Iowa/NH and early primary states as it results to influencing people early on in the election process, but it will take another 20 years or so in my opinion. Our generation believes in the social networking sites, but the older generation does not.

You're right, the establishment clamped down on us with their TV. In fact last night i had on CNN and saw no less than 4 stories on Hillary within 1 hour!

Their days are numbered, however. Technology is on our side. At some point, iTV will become a reality- and we will go from 4 or 5 news channels to THOUSANDS. Don't give up. This war has just begun.

I agree with you. We are not in this situation because we or the campaign is doing anything wrong. We are being buried by the MSM, and Fixed News is the most culpable.
