But the part about an estimated 50,000 donors is worth paying attention to!
Meetup groups, youtube videos, page-views, and even 1200 people in the Hy-Vee don't necessarily show a group of this size and passion. Doubters had some wiggle room on that.
Even campaign contribution totals and cash-on-hand can mislead. Paul is frugal, and that's why he is in such good financial shape. The contribution total was not large enough to thoroughly prove a large and growing base.
But 50,000 people who took the time to actually give money out of their own pocket - regular, everyday non-rich folk - well now, that does prove something!
The Ron Paul campaign having more cash-on-hand than all other 2nd-tier candidates combined is interesting an cool, but not a 'phenomenon.' Having more donors than all of them combined IS a phenomenon!
Way to go folks! Donations under $200 are hugely important. But let's milk the other $2100 out of ourselves soon!
