To the people that keep saying that just by watching Fox News, raises their ratings. You are spreading false information out of ignorance.

Quit spreading this ignorant crap.

Thank you. I was going to post that, but I'm eating pizza and watching fox instead.

seriously, it's amazing how many people don't realize this. a very very small group of people determine the ratings for the whole country

yep, tv ratings are largely meaningless... this is why many fantastic shows get cancelled, and most of tv is utter crap.

I wouldn't care if it cost them money, lowered the ratings, or paid me thousands. I am American and not watching that fear mongering, anti-American, biased, crap station EVER again.

That is your right, but you are trying to influence other's behavior using false information. That sounds like something the Bushies would do.

Boycott MySpace and the Fox websites. That will be noticed!

How are you going to know which companies to boycott if you dont watch the fake debate tonight?

Personally I may flip around and watch a piece or two of it because I'm hoping they tear each other down again.

while you are watching that, you are also watching commercials and unconsciously adopting a type of speaking, thinking, and a rude way of relating to others that you may later adopt without really being aware of it.
it is better to have more possitive things in your life, such as things that will be more prevalent with RP as President. he is a good example of nice manners and respect for others, for example.

i may be wrong, but if very few people ever turned on that channel, the cable cos would notice? woudn't they?

I dont think this is entirely correct. If you have digital cable, your cable provider knows exactly what you watch. They database this data and can sell it. If you have analog cable, it is impossible for them to know what you are watching without the nielsen box thing hooked up.

It does not help Nielson determine ratings however.

If you're watching Fox, make sure you make a note of all the advertisers - National and Local.

What about Tivo, directTV and Dishnetwork. These track viewing habits. it does matter.

It doesn't raise ratings. Nielsen carefully selects their sample audience based on demographics.

Have the courage of your convictions. If you tell people you're not going to watch Fox, write advertisers that you're not going to expose yourself to their commercials on Fox, then be intellectually honest and don't watch Fox. Don't try to shirk your statements with the excuse that they won't know.

Does the Vchip change that? Or whatever the chip in TV is.

Oh man, my family used to do that ratings stuff a few years back. We did a TV one and a radio one. We should get back into that.
