Lack of hand over heart? That's only for the pledge, at least as I've seen in my whole life.

This has been covered before... it's not the Pledge of Allegiance.

More importantly, it's the worst desecration of the song EVER. Period.

The singing of the anthem is SO ridiculous that it sounds like the South Park guys are doing it

Please. Nobody says you have to put your hand over your hearts during the national anthem. Soldiers are told to stand at parade attention for it, are they blatantly disrespecting the flag too?

What does this non-issue have to do about Ron Paul and why is it in Grassroots Central?

Ah, don't pay any attention to them. The only thing is that to try to keep the Ron Paul Grassroots section as uncluttered as possible, if it's not about Ron Paul, you should put it elsewhere. General Politics & Other is a good place for something like this.

Nobody says you have to put your hand over your heart for the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem. For some odd reason, it's expected though. Standing is another thing.

To me that screams submission to the authority of the state and worship of the state.

This was the original salute to the pledge:

1) This isn't a pledge. It's the anthem, and his stance was appropriate. I hate nationalism, anyway.

2) This is a non-issue.

3) Someone please help whoever is singing. She must be caught in a bear trap or something!

First of all its not Parade Attention.... You can either have Attention or Parade Rest. Secondly if in Uniform you stand at attention and render a salute towards the flag. If the flag is not visible you render the salute towards the music. As a Veteran of the USMC I know this very well.

If in Civilian Attire you stand at Attention.

For more info why not look up the UCMJ article.
