Virginia Independent Green Party is Circulating a Bloomberg Petition
January 4th, 2008
Michael Bloomberg has not said that he is running for president. However, the Virginia Independent Green Party (which is not affiliated with any national party) is already circulating a petition with Bloomberg listed as its presidential candidate. Virginia permits stand-ins. The vice-presidential candidate listed on the petition is Gail Parker, but if Bloomberg were to run and make use of that petition, Parker would be free to withdraw, and Bloomberg could substitute his actual running mate, later in the year.

The petition already has 300 signatures. 10,000 are required, due in August 2008

I voted Independent green in the last senate race. Couldn't do the Allen/Webb thing...

I thought maybe the GOP would get the message... but they obviously didn't.

I arrived at my local Giant (in Warrenton) to set up a Ron Paul literature table a few weeks ago, and found a very determined man occupying the space to petition for ballot access for Bloomberg. He got excited when he saw my Ron Paul hat, and showed me the petition he had in his hand, which listed Bloomberg for President, and Ron Paul for Vice President!

The man's name is Carey Campbell, and his business card identifies him as the "National Chairman" of Bloomberg for President. His web site is http://draftmichael.com/.

Hard to imagine two men more politically opposite (though I admit knowing little about Bloomberg). Not sure what the idea is, unless they hope to combine Bloomberg's money and Ron Paul's grass-roots support.
