LOL...the open line is the best from the chairman

"The chair appreciates the exhaulted view he is getting of the photographic core"...as he's looking right at 10 photographers mooning him....lol

Pretty interesting little spat there. You can tell the chairman had to think a little to answer those questions.

The cspan link didn't work for me. Try the one above then scoot to 20 min (though I don't know where the QA is.)

Try this: (worked for me)

Right click on this latest thread posted as a .wvx link.....

then Save Target As:

then add the extension .wvx to the file name

then save to your desktop.

This should force a Windows Media Player icon to the file

Double click on the WMP icon and see if it plays for you.

(Nero wouldn't stream it for me but this worked)

No i know realplayer blows, i'm just too lazy to get winamp (which i like better than WMP anyways). Quicktime isnt horrible either. The problem is that Realplayer has trouble redirecting .wvx files to .wmv files, i think, and i just couldn't run it off the page.

RP seemed a little miffed -- about as miffed as I've ever seen him -- at Bernanke's subterfuge.

Bernake had a look on his face when RP was questioning him. I swear I saw him gulp a little. Then he seemed a bit angry that RP was asking him about the '79-'80 crisis. Not only that, but I did catch when Bernake said something to the effect of no we won't have anything like '79-'80. Almost as if it would be worse.

Also, Bernanke simply said that it won't be like 79-80. He did not say what the fed would actually do to make sure of that. What a tool. (for the private bankers, that is)

We are so lucky to have such a brave man running for president. No other Congressman would even consider criticizing the Fed, let alone telling the Fed Chairman off! :D

In the Seattle Times 10/28/05:
Making money
The old-fashioned woe

New Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's most famous comment: "The U.S. government has a technology, called a printing press... that allows it to produce as many U.S. dollars as it wishes at essentially no cost. By increasing the number of U.S. dollars in circulation, or even by credibly threatening to do so, the U.S. government can also reduce the value of a dollar in terms of goods and services, which is equivalent to raising the prices in dollars of those goods and services. We conclude that, under a paper-money system, a determined government can always generate higher spending and hence positive inflation."

While Bernanke may understand that the Fed chairman really only has one power — to create or destroy money — it is abundantly clear that he does not understand that this power can create much havoc, and do little good.

Our senators should know that replacing Alan Greenspan with an old-time Keynesian [economist] is a poor decision ["Bush's choice wins praise from Wall St., politicians," page one, Oct. 25].

Nobel laureate Milton Friedman has the answer: "We don't need a Fed. I have, for many years, been in favor of replacing the Fed with a computer." Each year, it "would print out a specified number of paper dollars" to augment the money supply. "Same number, month after month, week after week, year after year."

Well Bernanke knows that if theres any man who can close down the Fed business that man is Ron Paul. Or it sure seems like it when you watch him answer. But i also think that Bernanke was put on the chair as a volunteer to take the fall.

Erm, everyone know the US treasury prints money. Technically the Fed doesn't print anything themselves, they take only loan the new money out (to congress and others).

It was the lack of denial from Bernanke that they don't print out of thin air that was important...

The Audio file on the Fed hearing is now amended to include both days:

Each days Opening remark by Barney Frank
4 separate statements by Ron Paul
1 response by Economist on 1st day
response(s) by Bernanke on 2nd day.
