Hello, this is a rant I hope this is the correct forum.

Living here in Pennsylvania I have seen how a very few has robbed and plundered this state and left us with nothing. Its the American way I assume. It all started with the native Indians. Pushed off there land, to be robed of everything they had. After colonization of this area, every single tree was cut down. The only evidence of there existence is the huge mansions that you see in Lycoming county. After the old, old forests were destroyed the industrial revolution started to take grasp. Next was the coal that mined and all the other resources were used up to help fuel the rise of the United States. All the while making a few very wealthy. They all created universities, libraries, institutions, and museums. They also horded and funneled all the wealth of the state. There are pictures and stories of herds of hundreds of deer running around Pennsylvania as few as 15 to 20 years ago. Today a big herd of deer is one that has 15 to 20 deer in it. As a kid I fished up in lake Erie a lot. Lake Erie used to be a dump site for garbage. The recommended amount of wallie a person should eat in one year used to only be one fish because of the mecury content was so high in the fish.

Growing up all I have seen is people hoarding and taking for their selfs. Never thinking of what they will pass down to there kids, family, or friends. today in the political process all I see is old baby boomers trying to make sure that their entitlement and government handouts stay in place. You "hippies" are just the same as the people I stated about above. The fish in the ocean are decreasing in size because you all fished the big ones out and threw back the small ones. You hunted all the game away in the forests. Your squandering all the (so called) last bit of oil. You have created the war on drugs which has destroyed societies. You sit back in your 2 bay garage homes and watch your damn tv, use up all the resources to create electricity so you can run the damn air conditioner 24/7. You never build any new energy infrastructure and then complain to us, and have my generation come up with a alternative to your damn squandering. Then your going to leave us with the debt of the Iraq war. FUCK YOU TOO!!!

I am so fed up with you damn baby boomers. You guys think you are entitled to everything. You ruined the values America was built apon, and you convinced a lot of your kids that they are a product of welfare and socialism. I'm not even going to go into my views of the religious fucks who think they should dictate how others should feel.

I'm sorry for my little rant. I just needed to say this to someone else besides my dad. He is sick of me blaming all of this on him, its your fault too.

Actually, the "hippies" were anti establishment just like you!

What you say is true. The hippies, in their youth, held a similar indignant idealism and resentment toward the generation that preceded them, but as they grew older they eventually became carbon copies of their parents, abandoning their ideals about life, love, experimentation, expanding the mind, individual freedom, environmentalism, peace and egalitarianism in favor of safety, security and consumerism. It is not clear whether this is a natural result of human nature and changing priorities as people grow older and start families or whether they were simply beaten down by the system and became so demoralized that they slipped into apathy.

One thing is clear. The American Dream has become a nightmare. In the few hundred years that white men have been on this continent they have transformed it from a beautiful paradise into a barren wasteland of freeways, shopping malls, billboards and factories. By way of comparison, the American Indians lived on this continent for 15,000 years without leaving any significant footprint. But the question is: Would we choose their simple and sometimes barbaric way of life over our own? I doubt it. Environmental destruction and authoritarianism are bi-products of industrial western society. I don't see any way that the baby boomers or any generation can change course without abandoning our core societal values of technological innovation and growth.

Hippies opposed political and social orthodoxy, choosing a gentle and nondoctrinaire ideology that favored peace, love and personal freedom,[6][7] perhaps best epitomized by The Beatles' song "All You Need is Love".[8] They perceived the dominant culture as a corrupt, monolithic entity that exercised undue power over their lives, calling this culture "The Establishment", "Big Brother", or "The Man".[9][10][11] Noting that they were "seekers of meaning and value," scholars like Timothy Miller describe hippies as a new religious movement.[12]

Actually, I still consider myself somewhat of a 'Hippie'. I don't go along with some of the off side 'vegetarian' etc. stuff but their view as stated in the quote above still holds true for me.

The indians weren't as innocent as you believe. They drove several species into extinction. I sure wouldn't call the place where non-industrial societies lived paradise and this "barren wasteland" allows us to live longer, eat better, communicate globally, expand our understanding of the world and the universe, cure diseases and create greater art than any other time in history. Wow, I didn't know that even luddites support Ron Paul!

Yep, Luddites, Conspiracy Nuts, Racists, Survivalists, Protectionists, Anarchists, Baby Killers, Strippers and Drug Addicts. The list grows! Then again, we are all just individuals in Ron Paul's eyes :)

First statement is very true. Your second statement I think is changing to a certain extent, as far as the environment is concerned. Authoritarianism is rampid and expanding. The difference between the baby boomers and the generation growing up now is. Baby boomers had the forests with plentiful game and low amount of hunters, they had fast cool affordable cars, the tangible items they had were durable, worked, and created under the premise that it will last. My generation has a man made deforested tree plantations as forests. Less animals to admire and hunt. Pieces of shit cars that are made out of plastic. You changed our economy from a good one to a disposable one, made from everywhere else but the US.

Because of what we are handed our core societal values ARE changing. We are thinking of and incorporating techniques that the baby boomers should of. Because there is nothing left we have to save/rebuild/reinvent/regrow/........ So where their views are of spending and fun, ours are of work and rebuild, along with innovate.

You are correct. Maby I came off wrong going back into time. I was using a parallel history of people in general to help explain the behavior of the baby boomers. I'm not a luddite.

Don't blame the baby boomers!

It's not their fault nothing has changed. When given the choice between Milky, Clarabelle or Bozo, who were they supposed to vote for and not get another clown in the White House?

All the years since the 60's, there has been no choice! This time around, there is a choice! I'm sure a lot of the so called 'baby boomers are voting for Ron Paul.

I'm sorry to say it, but no. The only way my mom has heard of ron paul is because of me. The only way that anyone I know that has heard of ron paul is because of me. The way I heard of ron paul is from some guy from Oregon I used to play call of duty with that I am still in contact with because of xfire. If it was not for him, me and at least 50 other people that I personally introduced to ron paul would not of heard of him. My mom, she is the sweetest woman perfect in every sence as a mother I love her so much, told me that ron is not doing his job as a candidate because she has not heard of him. She is your everyday mother, perfect in every sense.... except that she is blinded by religion and the media.

Although, my mom was not a hippy. My dad was though, and he hasnt heard of ron paul either till I told him. All I know is we are fighting a up hill battle, but I will continue to fight, and I will get as many people as I know to vote for ron paul.

Feel Better?

Take that anger to the streets my young friend (not the anger the passion behind it), us Gen X-ers feel that way too you know.

My dad was born in 1943, he's voting in a primary for the first time since '80 when he voted for Reagan.

I'm actually not a Luddite either. I just acknowledge the negative effects of technology on nature and the social structure. Unlike Luddites I do not advocate returning to a more primitive way of life as beneficial, nor do I think it is plausible. Whether we like it or not we've become dependent on modern technology so there is no turning back the hands of time now. Our only hope is that the next generation will figure a way to maintain a modern lifestyle without destroying the planet and ourselves in the process.
