im writing some speechs to persuade those for the war in iraq to see the light and i need some credible sources to backup my claims (blowback theory, middle-east presence evokes terrorism, and spreading troops to thin)

if anyone knows some good places to get reputable quotes on these subjects it could help me convert more than a few...

don't know if this will help you or not. i spent 6yrs in the marines during the 80's spent most of that time in the middle east. was in Beirut twice. the first time i was there our battalion commander was talking to some of the factions fighting each other, he asked some of them this question, what would you do if all the fighting just stopped ? their reply was , we don't know it's all we've ever done.

they have been fighting and killing each other for thousands of years i really don't think they are going to stop any time soon . in my opinion from what i saw there and what I've learned up to this point our being there just gives them a common enemy. someone they see as an invader or someone butting into their affairs.I'm not sure we as people who put our emphasis and pride into individualism can understand thinking of a people who think in terms of tribes or clans where an insult or slight to one is an insult to the tribe and grounds for war. where if an outsider steps in unasked they will both turn on them and when their done go right back to killing each other. it doesn't make sense to me but in their culture it does. anyway just my observations and opinion .

A picture speaks a thousand words. Show them the images that the media is refusing to show.

The Neocon conservative argument: We fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here.

Completely dumb, because if American soldiers are dying over there, then what good is the war?

It's still a Dead American.

Is an American's soldiers life less important than yours or mine? Not really.

Are there more terrorist now or before the invasion of Iraq?

Has Iran attacked us? Then why should 1 American die?

YOU must act. Support Ron Paul!

for what its worth...I'm still trying to put this together to make sense, its part rant at the moment

We parent other countries around the world. We tell them if they are grown up enough to have nuclear weapons. We tell them if they are meeting with our approval. If you are a good little country you'll get an allowance (foreign aid) and bad countries get no cake (cut off trade). This is part of the reason why the US is described as arrogant...because it is arrogant to tell other nations how to run their own affairs.

I was listening to an NPR story about a Mother with two feuding children. The Mother's solution was to start paying the older child to get along with the younger child. It hit me this same philosophy is used in our foreign policy. Basically the US pays Egypt and Israel billions to play nice with one another.

In Iraq we have assumed a parental role. The best historical example I can think of is the way the UK kept control of India because the UK felt India couldn't manage their own country. The US is in Iraq to avoid a civil war/keep the children separated from one another. Iraq was some big problems to work out....but they aren't the US problems, we didn't create the divide that was there long before the US arrived and Iraq can figure out how to resolve their problems without Gandhi or US soldiers.

The other argument for staying in Iraq is Al-Qaeda. Or the way I see it is not letting the bully pick on the kids. From what I've read what has hurt Al-Qaeda the most has been the arming Iraqi's. What is wrong with Iraq deciding the best way to solve its problems? Some issues really are dealt with best at the local level.

I've heard more than one candidate talk about using carrots and sticks when dealing with Iran. Thanks guys......that really helps a lot to end conflict when you are describing another country as a beast of burden that we can steer this way or that with carrots and sticks.

I also fear the day when China starts parenting the US and telling us to behave or they'll dump all their dollars on the market. I'm afraid we won't see how arrogant it is to parent other countries until one of them starts parenting the US.
