The difference being that the "Dean Scream" was blown out of proportion by MSM as it had nothing to do with anything. This is a seriously scary comment by McCain. Hopefully, you are right about it killing his campaign, though.

Ah, this needs to get out immediately.

The campaign's new strategy in NH should be to highlight the fact that McCain wants us to stay in Iraq for "100 years", because "we are in Vietnam and Korea".

Where does it end McCain? This is exactly what Ron Paul is telling us we are spread too thin and if we continue our empire will fall rapidly.

Only unpleasant thing about this clip is that it has ass view of those standing on that stage. Literally and figuratively.

$2 Billion per week cost of Iraq war on top of too many American lives lost and with 30% of Iraqi population killed or orphaned or have lost a family member. Yes, that makes us safer as Iraqi arabs love us even more. Such idiot politicians we have.

He has to hit him hard on this. Not for a gimmick or a strategy, but because the people should know the truth and know how important it is.

BUT much more importantly, he ALSO must, in this debate, and in ads or however for the next few days, hit Obama on the war (not out til at least 2013) (as well as the patriot act, and taxes).

If he (and his Campaign) does not do this strongly, they may be giving up 5-10 or more percentage points. We need boldness and a shouted, strong message that defines him as better and necessary.

McCain's Achilles Heel (temper) is his weakness. He barely let the questioner finish and McCain was so eager to overwhelm his questioner with his answer that he blurts out that our troops could be in Iraq for 100 years. McCain then defends his reasoning on the basis that our troops have been in South Korea and Japan for 50 years. Well, maybe the South Koreans and Japanese don't won't want our troops in their countries anymore. Furthermore, if we keep billeting our troops in various countries for decades or centuries, as John McCain would like, then either we have to expand the military via a draft or else withdraw troops from other countries to maintain a presence in new countries. In either case, America then becomes a victim of "Imperial Overstretch", which is one of the factors that ultimately doomed the British Empire when it took on more military responsibilities than it could afford.

Some peole like this idea, my dad who is libertarian on domestic issues, thinks that its a good think that we still have troops in Germany and Japan to keep them from rising up again militarily.

Does your dad still think it is a good idea to keep troops in Germany and Japan if it means that the per capita share of the $10 Trillion national debt is approximately $30,000 and growing??? I would like to keep troops in every country in the world if it would ensure world peace but we can't afford it! The United States is essentially subsidizing the military responsibilities of Allies like Germany and Japan who can spend more to police their region of the world. World War 2 has been over for over 60 years.

People forget that England and France warred against each other for centuries and only made peace in the first half of the 20th century. However, you don't see the British keeping troops in France to make sure that France doesn't rise up militarily. It's time we start reducing our military footprint in Asia and Europe and let our Allies shoulder more military responsibilities. If a problem arises in the future, the United States will successfully deal with it like it did in WW1 and WW2.

American politics runs on soundbites. The soundbite that RP needs to bring up in relation to this video and bringing all the troops home is this. "Why are hard working Americans paying for european universal healthccare by eliminating the need for them to pay for their own national defense" Why are we willing to send our money, that we need at home, and the lives of tens of thousands of our young people for the defense of Germany, Japan, France etc........"

Does HQ know about this????

What with Obama voting for torture, detention without trial and funding the war... now McCain wants 100yr war in Iraq.

HQ has $20m+ - surely they can get this message out. With all the Ind voters we should clean up in NH...

Yes -- there have been several postings indicating that HQ knows about this.

McCain is just stating the consequences of the position he shares with every other Republican candidate. Obviously we're planning on permanent deployment. The scale of our infrastructure and pattern of past military endeavors made this apparent to every observant person in the country.

Dr. Paul needs to use this ridiculous quote from McCain.

He also needs to point out the fact that Blackstone is getting paid huge money to work there while our men are receiving low pay for risking their lives off base where the danger lies.

He needs to mention those huge profits doubling .
