The advantage that the amoral, self-interested, and power hungry possess is that they don't rely on the rectitude of their cause to deliver them a well deserved victory. The evil know that they must plot, scheme, and toil for their successes, that they cannot count on Divine intervention. They already know what we must learn, accept, and memorize: we must be studious, creative, diligent, and opportunistic; we can not afford to overlook details or to pass up openings. If we win, it will be because we have earned it, not by our intentions, but by our efforts. We cannot allow the justness of our cause to lull us into complacency.

It isn't either/or, it's rectitude + fearlessness + cunning + tenacity + diligence + research + attention to detail + follow through + organization + pragmatic alliances + the gentle art of persuasion + outmaneuvering the competition......
