I just wanted to let everyone know that two new Ron Paul meetup groups have started here in WV just today!

Brad Barker has started one for Morgantown (ideal for those of you in SW PA, too):
http://ronpaul.meetup.com/539/

I've started one for Central WV/Mountaineer Country (thanks to Larry White for the guidance and advice):

There are five members in each group so far. If anyone's in the area and wants to participate, we'd love to have you!

That's good news! I hear they aren't having a primary in WV but just a caucus so hopefully some of these folks can get in on that. My husband is a Mountaineer (grandson and son of coal miners and the only guy from his high school class to go to college and went on to become a doctor.) We live in Florida now but we are working to get his family on board. Most are registered Dems and so pissed off at Bush that I think it will be a hard sell. His 2 brothers and 2 brother-in-laws already did over a year escorting convoys in Iraq and if things don't change soon will be headed back. Another statistic they don't mention is the divorce rate. So many families are broken by divorce after soldiers come back. Even more reasons we have to get Dr. Paul elected!

Anyway, glad to see WV in the game.

I'd ask you guys to come back and help reverse the brain-drain, but doctors are jumpin' ship left and right because of the hostile lawsuit/insurance environment.

Yeah, WV is heavily Democratic (but of the old-school, socially conservative, pro-gun Dixiecrat type), but Bush took the state last time around. Getting people out for the primary/convention will be a challenge.

We're working the delegate angle, though. There's going to be online voting for delegates to the convention this time around, so several of us are getting in the running for that.

I might be able to get to the Central WV one...how far from Parkersburg? There is a Marietta meetup though...probably still go to that one as it gets organized.

I was looking around today and there are some seriously affordable billboards available in my area (maybe this isn't uncommon). One on Grand Central in Pburg (near the Walmart), 23000 estimated traffic views, a very 'can't miss it spot', for $500/mo. Also some along I-77 for $1000/mo. I'm tempted, but future cash flow might be an issue for me.

I wish I had more time to hit the street, but it's all work and sleep to pay the man.

I just moved here, and it doesn't seem super bad...yes, generally Democrat, though, and I'm a hardline Libertarian. I just read Byrd's book...we could be worse off. As an extremely OLD, OLD school Democrat, he's more Republican than the neocons are now, imho.

I'm looking into the State delegate thing...anything you've come across that wasn't obvious? I think I know what's going on.

First of all, welcome!

For the Central WV Meetup Group, I think we're looking at meeting up in Bridgeport, which is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Parkersburg. It's an easy drive, a straight shot on US 50 east. I didn't realize there's a group in Marietta. That's great. I may have to come down that way and get involved.

That billboard spot on Grand Central would be great. We'll have to see what can be done.

You're right about Byrd. He gets a bum rap for the pork, but I don't think people outside this state realize how dependent they are on us for energy and how little we would get out of the deal if Byrd weren't making sure some federal fiat dollars got directed back here. As far as the Bill of Rights goes, he's top-notch.

I'm still studying up on the delegate thing. If you're interested in becoming one, send a PM to LarryWhite (http://ronpaulforums.com/member.php?u=1780). He's got more info and he's compiling a list so he can get info out to us more quickly.

I'm just curious, not trying to start conspiracy talk here, but, isn't Robert Byrd a 33 degree MASON?

So was George Washington. What does that have to do with anything?

lol...we have enough to worry about here in WV (poverty, unemployment, that whole inbreeding assumption thing [I'm originally from KS], etc.), without worrying about Masonic conspiracy.

I say, at least the Dems here support someone who's reasonably reasonable.
