I mean.. if enough of them support him are they allowed to go on strike like a labour union?

They can put down their weapons and just walk away right?

Yes, they can. Soldiers are people too and are as entitled as anybody else to withhold their labor. The question is, what happens to them if they do. And in the case of anybody in the US military, they catch an Article 86 charge and are punished for doing so.
