Circa 1959-

Watch Ayn Rand, author of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, railing against collectivism, defending the original intent of the Constitution and free markets. The part where she talks about how government regulation and interference CREATES monopolies and inequities is right in line with what Ron Paul talks about.

It's no coincidence that one of Ron Paul's children is named Rand.

Wow! Great interview. I like the quote "Separation of state and economics."

Is that true? I never thought about it, but it would make sense!

THANK YOU randolphus maximus once I went to that link I couldn't sop watching. Thanks YouTube for bring all this to me. To go instantly back in time and experience the views and thoughts of another like Ann Rand live is AWESOME. I recommend to start at the beginning of the Mike Wallace interview in 1959 then go to the Phil Donahue interview of Ann Rand in 1980 and then go to this clip from the movie Fountainhead with Gary Cooper. I get a kick out of why Ann enjoyed Charlie's Angles and I love how Ann said if she believed in God and the after life that she would kill herself to be with her husband who had recently died to help him in any where she could, apparently she loved him so much. Her appearance on the Donahue show at 75 yrs of age was the 1st one since her husband died. Wow.

I recomend to start off with with this clip.

Your welcome!:D I thought that her take against collectivism is spot on. Per your suggestion, I'm going to go back and watch the Donahue interview.

The thing about Ayn Rand is she's only too happy to take credit for her "ideas" which are really just rehashes of others ideas. Of course the Jewish 60 minute guy gets a big kick out of contrasting her "new radical ideas" with Christian or Jewish ideas. Why she was basically ignored in Europe?

She reminds me of an actor that takes the complement for the characters, plot, etc. of a movie without flinching. Like an actor she doesn't even use her real name.

Total fraud.

I can't say I know too much about the history of objectivism (only what's on wikipedia) but I liked the youtube clip because she talks about politics and how socialism or collectivism is faulty. Which goes along with Ron Paul's philosophy of as letting the individual be free to live with as little government interference as possible.

Everything everyone of us does or produces is the result of all the people before us. Take this alphabet, did you give credit for the people that helped invented it or are you just using it to support yourself without flinching?:)

Ayn Rand is at the root of our modern day liberty movement, I won't nit pick on history 20 years after her death.

She was a marvelous and intelligently bright woman, her words still have worth when heard today.

My awakening started with Ayn Rand. Everyone is flawed, there is no reason to expect them to be otherwise. Likewise, everyone has some merit (some a lot more than others).

Likewise, everyone has some merit...
I was in Boy Scouts for like a year and never earned a merit badge. Ain't it cool?:p

I'd say the liberty movement is firmly rooted in the Revolutionary War and those white guys with pony tails and funny hats.

I said modern day for a reason.

Humans are notoriously weak on any long view as far as history is concerned.

Hey - can't fault Ayn Rand for shameless self promotion. But when anyone over 21 quotes her like she's some sort of source of ideas...

Ayn Rand's at best a awful writer and generally a fraud.

Yeah, I know Dr. Paul likes her, but he gets a pass because he's got other good traits.

I would really expect someone like Ghouliani or Romney to quote an Ayn Rand based movie.

I'm sorry...just stuff it. She may be prideful and a flawed human and still yet correct in her views. In the interview she doesn't claim authorship over the founding principles of our nation, instead she highlights them and refers to them as the source.

So, please don't tell me about my "blind worship"...Ayn Rand was a voice in our American wilderness when there were no others, period.

20 years since she passed on, her views and opinions still resonant and her works stand on their own merit for individual minds to judge for themselves.

As I always say don't throw the baby out with the bath water. She nor anyone I know is perfect. She has some good points that are thought provocative and some bad. Ron seemed to use the good points, self reliance.
