I'm kind of confused about the caucus process in Iowa.

What significance does the popular vote (that declared Huckabee the winner) have in the scope of leading to the Republican nomination? Is it anything or does it just a way to build momentum for candidates?

And if so, why the heck would they even have that "straw poll" if it means nothing?

Is there a "delegate nomination" process afterward or something?

If someone could please explain the situation I would very much appreciate it :) Thanks!!
