I was just thinking that in Libertarianism, when someone infringes on the rights of another person, they must compensate them. If you steal something, you have to at least pay for the item. I don't think this is an unreasonable idea. There is no question that the government has systematically stolen from and abused the rights of the people. Many Democrats obviously want a long-standing welfare system that constantly "helps" the poor and suchlike. Well, what if we used this concept of compensating victims for a similar purpose, but one time only? That is, have the aggressor, the government, use the money it would save after cutting the bloated departments, to compensate its victims as best it could. That ought to at least appease a few Democrats and probably members of other parties as well who think that just letting the free market work by itself would not be sufficient. Frankly, I agree--you need a free market and a system of law and justice whereby people cannot just infringe on others' rights without appropriate punishment. Obviously I can't make such a decision for Paul but I think it would be worth considering. Has he mentioned anything like this?

A lot of traditional democrats really are libertarian, they just don't know it.

Democrats agree with most of the libertarian civil liberty ideas, but they absolutely hate free market economics.

But economics is closely related to civil liberties, with no property rights, you will have no free speech to oppose your money being taken from you.

Personally, I think most Democrats are hopelessly brainwashed into being socialists. Envy and resentment are powerful emotions, and some people will never overcome them.
