View Full Version : What the Old Media said about the Internet, before and after the Revolution began

Before the Ron Paul surge picked up momentum, the Corporate Media was telling us the following about the role the Internet would play in the 2008 election:

- The Internet is becoming more popular and used each day, so it's role would inevitably increase in the candidates ability to disseminate information and raise money.

- Traditional polling and other older methods of measuring candidates support would change with the Internet as more people took part in online polls and organized their own discussion forums online.

- Young voters would play a much more active role in this election, even more so than in 2004.

- Overall the Internet was going to redefine the landscape of the electoral process, at least from a public opinion perspective.

Then of course the predetermined corporate candidates - Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John McCain - the ones who were supposedly in tune with the Internet, didn't overwhelmingly stand out.

Unexpectedly, Ron Paul stole their thunder, reigning over all as king of YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, and winning most online polls.

Almost overnight the Old Media strategy changed. This is what they began to say about the Internet thereafter:

- The Internet was the land of the "fringe" voters and candidates, and overrun by conspiracy theories/theorists and wasn't to be taken seriously.

- Young people who were motivated to take part in politics online wouldn't be motivated to go out and vote when it mattered.

- Online polls weren't accurate gauges of support for any candidate because they would be easily manipulated.

This is just a friendly reminder to everyone out there. Now that the smears and downplaying of Ron Paul's success have failed, they will try to save face by giving him more fair coverage as he begins to do well both today and in the upcoming primaries. Just don't forget everything they've done up to this point.

Excellent post!!! Now, couple that with the fact that we've just learned (from some study a few months back) that 80% of Americans use the Internet.
