View Full Version : This isn't being stressed enough in Iowa...

Your caucus vote is only a straw poll vote, a recommendation, DELEGATE SELECTION IS WHERE THE REAL ELECTION HAPPENS AND IS AFTER THE STRAW POLL!!!

True enough, but it's the straw poll that gets released to the media, and that's what gives momentum to the winners, not the 40-some delegates that they get.

Are all Iowa meet ups stressing this to their members?

But people should participate in both no?

Yes. It has been stated numerous times on the boards to stick around for the delegate process as well.

IowaSupport

People should participate in both, yes.

It delegate voting process happens, if I remember correctly, after the party platform portion of the process, which is right after the strawpoll vote.

We've sent out e-mails to the CR and Iowa City groups stressing this.

yes we all know to elect only RP supporters to become delegates as well as alternate delegates. i plan on sharing this information with any fellow supporter that show up. but dont share it with the other campaigns !!!!

But people should participate in both no?

Absolutely, one is not more important than the other as they both play a roll in getting Ron elected. The delegate should not be overlooked as we want RP delegates at the National convention to seal the deal. ALL RP VOTERS MUST STAY FOR DELEGATE SELECTION BECAUSE THIS IS WHERE WE WIN.

The straw poll is far more important than the delegate selection process because this is the only outcome the media reports. Iowa has so few delegates at the national convention that the actual votes from Iowa at the Republican convention will just be rounding error. I wouldn't want anyone to skip the (vastly more important) straw poll part of the caucus because they think they are required to stick around for a two hours meeting afterwards. People who want to stay for delegate selection should do so, but all Ron Paul supporters need to participate in the straw poll portion even if they cannot stay for the entire meeting.

Solution: Win both.

Paulitician
01-02-2008, 05:52 PM
Both are important. If we do well in the straw poll, that gives people more incentive to elect RP delegates, and is what really legitimizes a win (a win for us is 3rd place or higher). Electing delegates is what matters, ultimately. Just tell every RP supporter you know to stay there until everything is done.

I can't believe there are people here acting like the delegate voting portion isn't very important. Look people, if you're supporting RP, go to the caucus, stay for the entire thing, and partipate in ALL voting. Bring a camera and take a picture of the final results at the end of the caucus. Don't leave until you have the final results!!!

We just got 20 new interested delegates with our phone bank drive yesterday.

If anyone wants to call Iowa voters send me a PM I have a large list of numbers.

Iowa has never been about delegates it is about media. Same as New Hampshire. Super Tuesday is about delegates. The early states provide momentum leading up to getting the real delgates. Of course winning Iowas delegates can't hurt either :)

You MUST stay for the delegates people....they are counting on you to leave...it then opens a position.

please refer to this thread: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=72698

we really need it to be stickied {mods-help please?}

Every delegate is important. Question though - do the elected delegates in Iowa have to vote at the national convention per the results of the straw poll for a given number of rounds or are they "free agents" from the get go?

6 pages of bumping... ...where are the mods to sticky this?!?!?

The Iowa caucus is in 3.5 hours and there are still people showing up here not knowing the caucus procedures (thinking it's just a one time simple vote and you're out the door), and some don't even know where their precinct caucus is being held or how to find out.
