View Full Version : Looking for artists to help with high end 3D animated Ron Paul TV spot

We've been working behind the scenes on a new Ron Paul 60 second TV commercial, and are now putting out the call for artists to lend us a helping hand.

Here's a quick rundown of the project:

I've taken the Ron Paul speech audio from my winning CNN/YouTube commercial, Something Big (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPjTAH8Y_L8) and have added new material, extending the speech to 60 seconds. The audio is going to drive a very high end 3D animated cinematic piece, complete with a photo realistic 3D Ron Paul. The finished spot will be in HD widescreen. We also plan to compose an original cinematic music score. This is going to be EPIC.

Our goal is to pitch it to the official campaign and get them to spend some of their millions on airing it in the run-up to Super Tuesday. We hope to add a "I'm Ron Paul and I approve this message" to the end, but at this point there are no guarantees at all this is even possible. First we have to pitch it to them, and get them on board. But first we have to finish the 3D work and get it to a presentable stage.

We can also raise grassroots funds to air it through our PAC (without the official disclaimer at the end of course).

So, we're looking for talented or professional graphic & 3D artists, illustrators, and music composers to assist the lead project animator, Nathan Evans of ARCFX.

We have a team of 7-8 people on this project already and are looking for a few more.

We don't have any finished shots to show as of yet, but we are well on our way and hope to have this finished in the next couple weeks.

If interested in helping, please contact Nathan Evans here.

it sounds great, but I have a word of caution...

If you cannot get an extremely good product, better not go 3Dat all. Poor quality, low budget animation is comical and will make RP a joke. Don't make RP look like the Nasonex bee.

This is going to be extremely high end, photo-realistic animation. In no way amateur B grade.

NO "photorealistic animation" will do RP justice. It's a great thing to aspire to however...

By the way, don't be afraid to go with a 2D animation. It's way easier to make 2D animation more realistic than a 3D model. Bad 3D modeling is a deal breaker.

can't wait to see a teaser screenshot or 5 sec clip. This my take awhile (I assume) but I think it will be awesome.

Nathan Evans of ARCFX is the 3D artist. We're looking for assistant animators to speed up the process. The work load on the project is pretty overwhelming for a single person.

I'll post teasers as soon as something becomes available!

We are being allowed free access to a state of the art render farm, so when the time comes to render this puppy out we're gonna set the processors on fire.

you want to see GREAT artwork. There is a 3D community website in which anyone can upload their work. Just amazing.

www.3dtotal.com

I have used three 3D programs...3d max, Zbrush, and some other one which was so bad I can't remember. I can do modeling and stuff but I am no expert, but I have A LOT of textures I can give up if people want them.

I am a 3d animator as well... more than happy to help, but I am not sure if a spot like this will be effective with regular voters... RP in 3D is an awesome idea, but it is hard to make a more convincing RP than the doctor himself...

But like I said, more than happy to help!

(PS: I could work in Maya or Max and this an older reel link (http://www.blue-fusion.net/eugen/reel/reel_07.mov))

Thanks. I'm kind of siding with some of the opinions that RP shouldn't be a 3d character. I would really like to see an animated model before solidifying that opinion though.

For the people who were wondering what the final product might be, here's an example frame of what it should look like. This a rough mock up from our story boards. Not the final image by any means, but you get the idea of the level of realism we're talking about.

You should make it really solemn and heroic. Like Batman in the shadows (thinking about the founding fathers) who suddenly APPEARS when the people are in need....The music should start out slow and then suddenly up the tempo....like Danny Elfman type stuff.....man I would love to work on this...

Are you an animator by chance?

Are you an animator by chance?

Nope....more of a director, concept guy. I have a picture in my head about how I would do this. I'm learning 3DS Max, but i've just started.

Know a little Maya (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=7635018) from the time when I worked for Silicon Graphics and it was under the Alias division. I suck as an artist though. I wish I could help.

Actually 3DS Max is the software that I am using to create this spot; I have two other people helping using Maya and XSI also. It should be interesting,

Any one else here talented in 3D computer animating to assist our lead artist? Classical music composers? The call is still open. See post 1 for what we're looking for.

I am a amateur in VFX, working at doing freelance. I just recently bought Mokey & Monet these two programs can add, replace, remove, or rotoscope anything in a video.

I also have combustion and XSI, though I am still learning 3d.

I have only done one video for Ron Paul so far here
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3euL_osDWhE

I will be going over the Mokey & Monet programs, to learn how they work. So if you could send a short clip, I'll see if it's feasible to get it rotoscoped fast.

Don't have a demo reel yet because it's mostly minor effects I did for independent films.

Hey Adam & friends,

This sure looks professional! How do you know it will be put to use? Do you have ANY reassurance that the Paul campaign will use it??? I'd hate to see it stuck in You Tube where some MIGHT see it someday.

Update on this?

Most of the 3D modeling & animation is 95% done. Finalizing and smoothing out body and camera motions. Working on the backgrounds, rotoscoping footage, finalizing the score (Marc Scabilia of Hope Anthem wrote/preformed it).

Do to the extreme amount of work involved, we're running 2-3 weeks behind schedule. Our access to the render farm may be delayed. It will be done within 2 weeks. Just wait....

Update: we're going to the render farm tomorrow and hope to debut next week. We're thinking of plugging the March at the end. If so, what should the wording be?

Edit. By "wording" I mean for an on screen title. It will be written words. RP will not speak them.

JiMMy_247

I think the wording you use would depend on two things: the message you give throughout the rest of it for the sake of continuity and what Ron Paul might say when he announces the date for the march. If i had my two cents though, I would say make it as inclusive as possible when mentioning the march, nothing too divisive: "the Freedom message brings us together; it doesn't divide us" ...and in doing so generates a larger crowd :D

It should be very simple: "Join the Freedom March on Washington April XX, 2008. www. signup.com /etc."

If you haven't completed the music yet, "RP Goes to the Zoo" is very upbeat and captures the excitement of the movement. Or so they tell me.
