I have been going back and forth for weeks with someone who supports Huckabee. (Originally they supported Giuliani, but that's neither here nor there)We've been very respectful to each other as we discussed all the issues of each candidate. I couldn't change his mind no matter how hard I tried to explain Ron Paul's issues.

Then something strange happened after our last exchange.

A few days later I hear back from him and out of everything I said, he says that he is going to switch to Ron Paul because of one thing I said which was....If approx 70% of the American people are sick of the Iraq war, how do you expect a pro-war candidate to win the general election?

Please tell me that's not all it takes to change someone's mind and I've been wasting time talking about the issues. :p

To keep a long story short he said he can look past a few things he disagrees with Ron Paul, like the Iraq war, because he feels Ron Paul would be much better than Hillary or any of the other democrats and he's scared I might be right about a pro-war republican candidate losing this time around.

Whatever works I guess :p

Yes, the intention is not for a Republican to win this time, as far as I can tell.

Good stuff.

I wish more Republicans would realize this.

I always try to mention this, there is no way the republicans will win this election on a pro Iraq war stance...

i suspect the neocons have all gone to support hillary so they are planning for the republicans to lose no matter what - hence they are supporting romney and not paul because romney is bound to lose cos he is such a wishy washy guy

I never understood what looks to be candidates trying to out-Bush Bush, when his approval rating is what, 30%? Is that really how you win, by running on the same positions as the president with one of the worst approval ratings? It doesn't make sense.

It's strange how one little thing can sway a person one way or the other.

That unfortunately is why the media likes to ignore Ron Paul and play silly little sound bites of the other candidates to dictate who they should vote for.

indeed. just listen to Ron Paul - the wars can be tied to the other problems, most notably national debt, social security, terrorism, free trade, border security, public opinion.. the list goes on and on.

the majority of the country is against the iraq war - so why would they want to vote for anyone but Ron Paul, the strongest anti-war (only?) candidate? it just so happens that he is the strongest in nearly every other category too! ;)

I have been telling people that for awhile. Also consider the last time Democrats took all those seats from the Republicans, republicans didn't believe that would happen either.

I just don't believe a person who supports the war will get enough to win. I think there will be enough Republicans who do not support the war will vote for a democratic candidate, but no democrats will vote for a pro war republican candidate.

Take into consideration that the middle class is down on the economy, and any pro war republican candidate will be grouped with George Bush. As we get closer to next NOV the economy will worsen, and the closer to election day the more people will switch from candidates that are linked to Bush.

huh?
it's a perfectly legitimate reason to change your vote, even if you don't care about the war but want a republican to win.
it's a good argument.

This is why it bugs me that the HQ has not put out any good anti-war ads.

The top issues are corruption, war, and the economy. Ron Paul wins them all.

Another issue is beating the Democratic nominee. Ron Paul wins that also.

I think this Republican versus Democrat think is working real well for those in power because they can do what they want and always blame the other for the problems.

Huckabee sealed his fate when he said he wanted to lose with honor to Hillary.

A pro-war Republican candidate means Hilliary or Obama (both anti-freedom big spending socialists) as President.

i'm willing to bet money that if huckabee or romney were to win the nomination, they'd be smooth talking their way into ending the war "with honor" but withdrawing the troops to (1) appease the brainwashed republican sheep and (2) to stop republicans for voting for the dems instead.

they are both full of BS and will say/do anything to win.

How obscene it is that the horrors of death and destruction in war is a political tool some choose to manipulate to their advantage.

Surely they have no soul left.

70% of the people are against the war.
70% of the people are against amnesty.
Ron Paul is the only candidate on the right side of both top issues.
He is the only one that can beat Hillary.

The War

And

The Economy.

And Paul is the only candidate even talking about it. He is also the only one talking about a balanced budget.

However, I expect the Huckster to see that it is an important issue and begin using Paul's position in 3, 2, 1......

It worked for him, but I think it's just too bad that it all came down to such a calculation.

I like Ron Paul ONLY because he represents my ideals.

I'D RATHER LOSE SUPPORTING HIM, THAN "WIN" BY COMPROMISING.

If everyone had thought like that, we'd have had our Constitutional republic back years ago.
