National Convention Schedule for Most Active Political Parties
January 1st, 2008
Below are the national convention dates and cities for the five political parties that are on the ballot in at least 15 states:

Constitution, April 22-27, Kansas City, Missouri
Libertarian, May 23-26, Denver, Colorado
Green, July 10-13, Chicago, Illinois
Democratic, August 25-28, Denver, Colorado
Republican, September 1-4, St. Paul, Minnesota

The Republican National Convention is the latest major party presidential convention in U.S. history.

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of these conventions is that all five of them are unpredictable, as to who will be nominated for president.

Why does the Republican Party have such a late date? A true brokered convention would be a disaster, giving no time to actually win the general election.

The Rep Convention is so late because they thought the front-loaded nominating process would be over early and the nominee would have lots of time to raise money and consolidate the base.

A brokered convention turns it into a disaster...
