Ron Paul’s presidential campaign has helped the cause of individual liberty more than anything in my lifetime. It has shown that, contrary to popular belief, there are a substantial number of us who recognize this as our American heritage. It has shown that we are not apathetic couch-potatoes who are content to watch ‘Dancing with the Stars’ as our country is destroyed. It has shown that we are not only paying lip service to our cause, but are willing to spend large amounts of money and time to ensure success.

It is relatively easy to get caught up in the excitement of the race, to get behind one man, but the question is, what happens next?

Win or lose, Ron Paul and his message will need continued support from us. It would be a true shame to lose the momentum we have gained, to let the networks that we’ve formed breakdown.

We will have to stay active, continue educating people about the principles of liberty through conversations, letters to the editor, etc. Some of us will have to continue to organize Meetup groups, only with a different theme. Some of us will have to go into radio and TV and continue to use the Internet to spread the message of freedom. Some of us will have to run for public office at the national, state, and local level using Ron’s career as a guide.

We can return America to the direction desired by the Founders, but it won’t happen with a win in one presidential election.

There are several organizations that have been doing good work over the years, fighting the same battle we are fighting today. If you are looking for a place to redirect your energy and financial support, the following three organizations would be excellent choices.

Downsize DC (http://www.downsizedc.org/)
Ludwig von Mises Institute (http://www.mises.org/)
The Advocates for Self-Government (http://www.theadvocates.org/)

I can’t even imagine what Downsize DC could accomplish with $25 million, like we donated to Ron Paul!

To all my fellow patriots, thank you for making 2007 the start of something truly grand!

“Besides, the spirit of the times may alter, will alter. Our rulers will become corrupt, our people careless. A single zealot may commence persecutor, and better men be his victims. It can never be too often repeated, that the time for fixing every essential right on a legal basis is while our rulers are honest, and ourselves united. From the conclusion of this war [Independence] we shall be going down hill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves, but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of this war, will remain on us long, will be made heavier and heavier, till our rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion.” – Thomas Jefferson, 1782

What happens next is that we start working on getting President Paul some friendly votes in the House and Senate, so he doesn't have to veto everything all the time!
