An idea just crossed my mind about how to make donating to the Ron Paul campaign a little more fun while perhaps adding a bit of novelty for attracting more media attention (though if 6 million dollars in a day didn't achieve the latter, I don't know what would): donate by issue.

For example, Ron Paul's donation form might have a list of 10-20 of his major campaign issues (e.g., withdraw troops from Iraq and elsewhere, legalize competing currency, abolish the IRS, etc) to which people could unofficially "allocate" their donation. A tally of the monetary donations toward each issue would be shown on the campaign's home page.

An extra little touch might be, instead of showing just

Joe Bloe, Los Angeles CA

the widget might show

Joe Bloe -- Abolish the federal reserve!
Los Angeles, CA

The novelty of taking screen shots of just my name and city on the widget has worn off, but a novelty like this might motivate me to scrape together another $100.

I guess this isn't something the grass-roots could implement--it would have to be programmed into the official campaign site. Any suggestions on who to contact?

I'd be for it as long as the was an "all of the above" option..... http://www.ronpaulforums.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Not necessarily true....

Those "Promo-Codes" things...

People use them for everything.
The campaign doesn't dish them out - do they?

But they let them track what's coming from what websites...

Someone just needs to make a list.

DrugWarWon (Won - for liberty and sovereignty of the individual.)

OutOfIraq (... not explaining this one.)

NoIRS (Self explanitory =P No more Fed. Income tax.)

GimmeGold (Back on the gold Standard)

Etc...
I'm throwing in $50 I can't afford and going with the DrugWarWon.

Someone fill in the rest of the list - and then we can spread them as donation codes.

The other codes work as well...
Just add
+(Issue)
At the end - it'll sort by the special promo code first, then by issue.
Easy enough to track.

Scratch that.

The campaign DOES have to add the promo codes
>_<

It won't let me use it - says it's expired or invalid =(

A ten-choice poll would be the way to go anyway to keep the number of responses clean and finite.

I've sent this idea as an email to the campaign from their website. If anyone else thinks it would boost donations or media interest, send them an email as well.

With talk of a better widget/gimmick for donations, I thought I'd bump...
