Name of the Show: Washington Journal

Time: 7AM-9:30AM-approximately-varies by day

How it works: Everyday they start the show at 7AM by asking a certain question for those 30 minutes (not the best time to call in as the questions are usually specific). Then at 7:30AM they have their first guest on-they usually have 3 guests. Anyone in the world can call in to the show and speak to the guests-this could be a time when you mention Ron Paul or you talk about one of the things he promotes. Then at the end of the program every day they have like usually 15-30 minutes of open phones-during this time you can call and talk about anything you want.

Phone number to call:

If you support Republicans: (202) 737-0001

If you support Democrats: (202) 737-0002

If you support Independents: (202) 628-0205

If you are calling from outside the U.S.: (202) 628-0184

*sometimes they adjust the last phone number for other uses.

How to get through: Call as soon as you see the numbers go up on the screen/the interviewer starts telling people to call (whichever come first-you have to do this the first second possible as this is the only time you will be able to get through).

When you get through: The operator will ask you what you are going to say-tell them and that is it-they will put you in line at which point you will hear the show playing on the phone. Make sure your TV or radio is turned down because there is a delay and it will cause complications with you call.

How you know when it is your turn to speak: You will hear this weird noise-kind of a subtle one.

How long will you be allowed to speak?: Not long-I am thinking 30 sec.-1 minute. Sometimes the you will be asked by the interviewer to elaborate on your views if they like what you say-then they will hang up like that-you will hear a slight change and you will know you are no longer on TV-it happens just like that.

What should you/should you not say when on the air?: 1) There is no need for saying that you for taking my call because C-span accepts everyone's calls 2) You don't have to rush through what you are going to say-it sounds bad and will actually decrease the amount of time they will let you stay on the air because it doesn't sound good. If you actually just take your time, they will give you more time.

How often you are allowed to call and be on C-Span?: You can get on once every 30 days.

How big is C-Span's audience?: They have never done ratings so they don't know.

Who are the typical C-span listeners?: They are people who care about this country and about politics. They are political activists. They are involved with campaigns and they vote.

How do you know the schedule and which guests are going to be on every morning?: You can find out the day before by checking their website www.c-span.org and clicking on Washington Journal which is on the left side of the page 1/3 of the way down or click here: http://www.c-span.org/homepage.asp?Cat=Series&Code=WJE&ShowVidNum=9&Rot_Cat_CD=WJ&Rot_HT=206&Rot_WD=&ShowVidDays=100&ShowVidDesc=&ArchiveDays=30
When you get to that page-you will see a box where in it they will say the day and which guests will be on that morning. You can also click from the main page at the top right corner the button that says TV Schedules or you can click here: http://inside.c-spanarchives.org:8080/cspan/schedule.csp Look on left for C-span not 2 or 3 and go down to where it says 7AM-that is the schedule for that morning-you can click on the Washington Journal link to get the breakdown: http://inside.c-spanarchives.org:8080/cspan/cspan.csp?command=dprogram&record=558988925

1) When exactly to call in: Call in the second the interviewer says "here are the numbers to call in". If you don't get in right in the beginning then if you are calling in as a Republican say, they call in as soon as a Republican is done with his question on tv because that second a phone line opens and many people don't know to call in that second.

Call in on any of the lines - republican, dem, or indeep. tell them it was busy on the republican line -
or whatever-

Usually the line is busy, and if you do get through to a ring it may not be picked up especially at the end of the show.

I have called in four times - the morning of July 4th was with a Founding Fathers discussion which was of course alot of Ron Paul - we started to snowball on each other from New York to North Carolina to Iowa.

It's best if you can jot down what you are going to say while waiting - and try to stay on topic but putting in something else a little is ok too.

And of course volume must be off - so tape or DVD record it for yourself.
