Clinton, Edwards Want to 86 Gravel, Kucinich?

At the end of an NAACP Presidential Forum in Detroit in which fringe candidates Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich repeatedly upstaged the top two tiers, John Edwards approached Hillary Clinton at her podium and, perhaps forgetting that microphones were still on, can clearly be heard saying "we should think about at some point... maybe some time in the fall, we'll try to have a more serious debate with a smaller group of people."

Hillary agreed with Edwards, saying “We’ve got to cut the numbers of these, because they are just being trivialized.” Edwards responded “And they’re not serious. They’re not serious,” then walked away. Hillary caught up to him to add "I think there was an effort by our campaign to do that, but it somehow got detoured," saying "We’ve gotta get back to it." While shaking Dennis Kucinich's hand, she added “our guys should talk.”

Wow! Do you have a link to the tape?

I imagine some folks in the "Democratic wing of the Democratic Party" would be incensed, if not entirely surprised, by these remarks.

This is what you get from the elitist's candidates is an elitist attitude. Kucinich & Gravel are the only ones on that side that aren't owned by the establishment. The tape probably won't get much coverage but it should. And people should request to hear all the candidates, not just the "bought" ones. From my watching their debates I feel Kucinich & Gravel are the only two honest ones of the lot. Don't agree with them on most things, but Gravel is the best Dem Pres. candidate on issues I've seen in a long time, I catch myself areeing with about half of what he says(lol)...His filibuster in the 70s actually ended the draft...

I see the logic. But people would have to follow political news for them to know...then they would have to care....I don't think this does much except convert a couple (and I do mean a couple) of dems that were on the fence for Ron Paul.

Collusion to silence other candidates? I think everyone will take notice.

I guarantee that if Kucinich drops out after hearing this, and Hilldog wins, we'll have Secretary of SomethingOrOther Kucinich. Heh.

I say it will not drive too many people away from their campaigns. Think about it. If people were already dead set on Hillary or Edwards, they will most likely agree with them. They too will think that the "lesser" candidates should be excluded.

If it does drive anyone away, it will most likely drive them to Kucinich or Gravel, but maybe to Richardson.

"Both Edwards and Clinton were asked about the exchange Friday, and offered different explanations.

In New Hampshire, Clinton seemed to lay responsibility on Edwards.

'I think he has some ideas about what he'd like to do,' she said, adding she liked participating in the forums.

For his part, Edwards told reporters in Iowa that he wasn't in favor of barring anyone from future gatherings. Rather, he said he wanted to see them separated into two groups of four each, chosen randomly.

'The result would be that we would have a much more serious discussion and people would actually be able to see what the differences are between us,' he said."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Kucinich called Edwards' explanation 'disturbing' and said he planned to contact Edwards and Clinton immediately to demand an apology.

'I accept their offer to participate in a debate with just the two of them,' Kucinich said. "John should be happy with this, since he wants a small group."

Kucinich's bitterness toward Edwards was somewhat ironic, given the boost he gave Edwards in Iowa when they were both running for president in 2004.

Kucinich, who is very popular with a small but ardent group of liberal activists, asked his Iowa supporters to back Edwards if they didn't meet voting thresholds in any of the state's precincts. That effort increased Edwards' final delegate count in the state, putting Edwards within striking distance of winning the caucuses that year.

Sent the journalist a mail:

Dear Steve Huntley

With all due respect mr.
You have overlooked the posibility that a candidate like Ron Paul CAN get elected, and that Hillary KNEW (could hear) that the microphones were on so she could make a statement that she would otherwise never get away with.

Since you followed up on that, the joke is on you sir, and i hope for the sake of the world that Hillary Clinton will not get elected.

This is the most wretch-inducing crypto-fascist claptrap I've ever had the misfortune of reading...When they start coming out with hit-pieces like these, claiming that Ron Paul has "no chance" it means they're terrified that he really does, so they try to create these discouraging screeds in an attempt to circulate self-fulfilling prophesies.

It's not too far of a leap to consider that if the Democrats limit the number of candidates in any upcoming forums or debates, that the GOP will soon follow. Maybe we should consider Edwards and Clinton's words as a threat to Ron Paul.

What they do not understand, is that I have already voted for Ron Paul for president...TWICE, and that is who I am going to WRITE IN AGAIN, no matter what.
