View Full Version : campaign request $23 million

As you're aware, the offical campaign has asked for $23 million. Here's my idea (I've posted it on DailyPaul as well).

How to eat an Elephant - One fork full at a time.

What if we got the $23 million dollar budget disagregated by state.

There are eight original states as part of super tuesday, and what looks to be 12 others that have joined the party.

Take the amount budgeted by state and run pledges against these totals.

Obviously, those living in Super Tuesday states will pledge to the home state, but what of neighboring states.

I think we should proceed under the assumption that the administration will not accept matching funds and plan accordingly.

$23 million is daunting, but what about $1 million for Arkansas, for instance? Is that too daunting?

The only way to eat an elephant is one forkful (state) at a time. We need the budgeted expenses posted to a website with pledges by state and dollar amount.

Great Idea.... Plus some one should change the New Years Eve Money bomb banner so it reaches out and grab you. I just noticed it the other day and only after I read virtually every other banner at the top of the page.

I wish the campaign luck... Knowing us, though, he'll probably get $25 million...

It's daunting, but the obvious implication is that they are expecting a good showing in Iowa or New Hampshire, or both, that would drive this type of boom in donations.

Meh I think I'm more in favor of independently raising and running some of those amazingly good independent commercials that were created by the grassroots. I do like the idea of setting a goal for each state. Then people could contribute to whichever states they thought were most effective.

Also I remember in a campaigns and elections class that if you want to reach 60% of the US population or more then it's more economical to run national ads instead of ads on individual stations. Seeing as super tuesday includes California and New York I'd guess that we might be right around that population level.

At one time near the end of the Tea Party, reports for Q4 indicated the campaign had ~$18.4 million from 118,000 donors. That is an average of ~$156 per donor.

If we raise the average over the next few weeks to ~$400 per donor, it would mean an additional ~$28.8 million (assuming no new donors).

The $23 million goal is not far fetched if the support/resolve remains strong.

Now that banner grabs my attention.

How could that sum be raised by the campaign, or grass-roots (all pretty much burned out) in the time frame required?

We're not talking reaching $23,000,000 - but $23,000,000 MORE than they currently have. That's what they're saying is required so they can run in all primary states.

"To run radio and television ads in 20 states simultaneously will cost a fortune. Not to mention the cost of voter contact mailings to those 20 states. And then there is the cost of contacting hundreds of thousands of people by phone. All of this, plus other projects, will cost $23 million more than we presently have in the bank."

Is this feasible?

How no-one is getting what, smarty pants?

Do you expect a new influx of donors in the next few weeks to throw $23,000,000 at the campaign?

Just make the money bomb date, line up the website and all just like before... and have faith. Watch what happens :)

Don't speculate, don't linger, just do. Move forward.

I know we can get damn close to $23M more. I like the idea of setting goals per state. Local goals might inspire more people.

Since the average "bomb" donation has been $100, there's a huge number of contributors who are nowhere NEAR the $2,300 limit. Assuming a 3+ in Iowa and NH there should be a flood of donations the week after NH as those who "got their toes wet" with $100 donations on 11/5 and 12/16 double, triple, quadruple their contributions as RP shows his candidacy is truly viable.

I think the campaign has enough money. We should start putting money into Lord Xar's PAC and the blimp, etc. They always have higher quality ads anyway.

If we can get top 2 in both Iowa and New Hampshire, I know I'll definitely be donating and I'm sure others will as well.

the thread title sounds like they need 23 million instead of 4 mil.

we should stop funding the blimp and fun call for paul and grassroots calling stuff.

the blimp hasn't even been to iowa or NH.

Pete,
Just think about it...For us to win the Presidency - we will have to destroy ourlselves and morph into something else probably 4-5 more times

I'm a bit confused!

When this all started, it said right on their site, 12 million to win all those states. Now with more than 19 million, they seem to think they can change the original intent and spend like it is easy to get that kind of money.

If they can't budget better than they have been, then I begin to wonder what is going to happen even if they did have another 23 million. Would they then say, we need another 50 million?

If Paul takes 3rd place in both Iowa and New Hampshire, we will have new supporters and new enthusiasm to raise the 23 million easily.

But face it- Iowa and New Hampshire are D-day.

We need to place in the top three in at least 1 of them

Keep in mind that Romney and Giuliani both spent $30 million through Q3 alone.

That is not what the original widget said!

The original widget was for those states alone, which on average is $2.4M per state. Assume that thats what is really spent on those states, and assume that the extra $7M raised is added to the $23M being requested. This makes $30M for 22 states, or on average $1.36M per state.

The 22 Super Tuesday Primary States are as listed below

I think $30 for all of these states is very conservative. Considering that NJ/NY is one of the most expensive campaigns in the country to run because you have to buy media in multiple regions (NY, NJ, PA, CT). Im sure that states like Alaska, North Dakota, and Delaware really help to reduce the average cost though since I dont imagine its all that expensive to buy media there.

No, wrong. Below is partial text from the email sent by the campaign.

Then why does the present widget just show two states?

diggronpaul
12-31-2007, 12:36 PM
The campaign is probably assuming that they'll need a total of 10% of what the other main candidates have (i.e. $50M total). In 2004, the total cost of the presidential campaign was almost $1B for all candidates. If RP is going to compete with campaigns raising hundreds of millions, then $50M (or $23M more) is in the ball park.

T206

Then why does the present widget just show two states?

Because the goal was blown out of the water and it was no longer needed to be posted. The widget now focues more on the total donated and the countdown to those two states.

Already did at 1 minute after 12 this morning. And before at the Tea Party. I'm on a fixed income and don't have much to live on but I gave what I could.

I'm just concerned with the amount of money needed versus the amount coming in. Sure hope enough comes in to do the job.

I/we need Ron Paul in the White House so he can fix this government.
