I don't see that increase in Republicans on the graph...

It's there, but subtle.
10% is only 3 points. You'll see Repubs go up about 3 points. If you look at the Indi's, they go down the same 3 points.
Look from about the middle of Sept. to the end of the graph. Notice as the Repub line starts trending upward, the Indi line starts trending downward...mirroring each other.
The Dem line stays virtually flat.

I don't know, I'd be careful not to read too much into it. It looks like the dip is well within the statistical noise range.

There has been over a 10% swing since the summer of Independents saying they are now affiliated with the Republican party. Once could imagine that Ron Paul would be the chief cause and beneficiary from so many people switching sides.
I can't imagine too many independents becoming Neocons at this time, but for all the Ron Paul bashing he's certainly bringing many people (myself included) back into the Republican party.
First timer here - Independent for years - Republican now.
