FWD: via MySpace post:

The other critical items we can influence directly are the FCC broadcast license for each affiliate, AND FCC approval for station purchases/mergers/trades. By specifically targeting FCC approvals, your comments will have a LOT more long-term weight. Endangering the local affiliate's license with enough negative comments in the right way will change their attitude from "It's the network, nothing we can do" and largely ignoring you to actually calling the NewsCorp on your behalf saying "OMG, fix this NOW!"

Remember, the FCC threatened to hit EACH broadcast station with a 6-figure fine for the half-second "wardrobe malfunction" at the SuperBowl*.

Key trigger phrases:

"FCC Public File"
"Not acting in the public interest"

1) At the beginning of EACH email or FAX to an affiliate (actual broadcaster, not the network) ask that the comment be placed in their "FCC Public File." They are required to comply with your request.

This "Public File" is reviewed by the FCC each time that station's license is up for renewal. Not getting a license renewed means the station is worthless.

Give your opinion that the broadcaster is "Not acting in the public interest" and give detailed reasoning.

We can specifically start slamming each affiliate under the FCC "Equal Time Rule."

2) Comment to the FCC directly on media ownership:

...and make sure to comment how NewsCorp is "acting against the public interest."

Just start lodging complaints about fox news....... they have to investigate it!

Unless of course Rupert owns the FCC too!

I'm sorry - I was under the impression that the Fox News Network was not regulated by the FCC because it isn't an over-the-air broadcast. It's a cable network which the FCC has no right to regulate.

Rupert also owns MySpace.

The parent network can still be hurt if such complaints are filed against each of its local affiliates, who ARE over the air. Same effect on their bottom line.

You think any local affiliates who are over the air will carry it? I'd bet money NH will. Then it falls under FCC jurisdiction.

Exactly - the cable news channel is not FCC reguolated but any over the air stations that are to carry the debate WILL BE

We need to file complaints for these channels - the airwaves belong TO US

Wait a sec... this is against RP's principles. Fox news is a private entity and should be allowed to include or exclude whoever they wish. And we have the right to not watch or patronize their sponsors and convince as many others as we can to do the same. This is the correct course of action in a free society that respects property rights. Using a government agency to force them to do what we want with their own property is wrong.

Fox news is leasing public airways... Hence -- the FCC...

Cable networks are regulated by the FCC, there are just different regs that they have to follow. If you asked Ron Paul, he'd say do away with the FCC. Using government power to gain advantage in this way is PRECISELY what RP is running against. We should have no part of it, IMHO.

disagree. Ron opposes tax but he still abides to it. When you disagree with the law, you try to change it or you play according to the rules of the law. We have the right to exploit the FCC regulation to our advantage unless they decide to abolish it.

If the government takes land and gives it to a private company, and promises to regulate that company, then, even if we disagree with the government's actions in the first place, we would still have every right to demand that those regulations be enforced.

That is exactly the case with the airwaves, which have been taken by the government and given to certain broadcasting companies. It doesn't apply the same to cable, but it is definitely true with respect to ANY broadcast (over-the-air) TV station that is licensed by the government.
