Thanks to my recent interest with Ron Paul I have been doing a lot more research about America's foreign policy. I watched a PBS documentary called "Showdown with Iran". Very informative. I also learned about the US installing the Shan in 1953. What an eye opener! Not to mention this Iraq war. Until last year I just thought it was a huge mistake/misunderstanding and now I feel a lot more informed.

I know there is unlimited stuff to learn about the history of the US involvement overseas. I'm just looking for more. Are there any good documentaries that cover more events like these? I watched a few Alex Jones movies and I can't say I'm fan. I researched several of the "facts" cited in his films and found some of them to be flat out untrue. I want information that's real history.

Any suggestions? Thank you very much!

Start with spelling. Then when you pass the fifth grade, your teachers will introduce you to US history. BURP. I'm cranky today.

lol i was definitely thinking (and feel ) the same thing. im also cranky. naive is a tricky one. it coulda been worse, like 'nyeev'. naivety is even harder to spell.

the first step towards recovery is admitting you have a problem, so welcome aboard!

The Fog of War is a great movie.

There is a thread in here somewhere that categorizes Documentaries, lemme find it for you.

Look under the military industrial complex, the top two i can vouch for as being very professionally done.

Also the three videos under MSM are great and really reveal the propaganda we are subject too. I think spin is the one that include Al-Jazeera. And if it is, then I highly recommend it. Outfoxed is a must watch.

I watched this as well. It is very good and comprehensive of both sides. It really highlights Bush's diplomatic mis-steps which undermined the more "moderate" Iranian politicians and allowed the more radical ones to take power the past few years.

Apparently, calling someone the "Axis of Evil" doesn't help relations.

Here's a great speech by Ron Paul in the house on July 10, 2003:

There is a lot you can learn from Ron's own words. I suggest, therefore, you get his book "A Foreign Policy Of Freedom." Also, go to www.ronpaullibrary.org and search for terms like "foreign policy," "iraq," "Cold War," "Soviet Union," "Mexico," "intervention" etc. etc. And go to www.ronpaulaudio.com and download some interviews you think deal with foreign policy.

You can also watch episodes of Conversations with History (http://www.uctv.tv/library2.asp?Date=&summary=show&title=&keyword=conversations%20with%20history&showID=) online [on that particular website, on Google and some are on YouTube now].

Google Video has some great documentaries and interviews. You'll have to look for those on your own. Some videos of people Ron Paul has mentioned:

Chalmers Johnson (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7303977515865379321) - Author of the "Blowback" series

Robert A. Pape (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6032093590868127882) - Author of the book "Dying To Win: The Strategic Logic Of Suicide Terrorism"

Michael Scheuer (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3618572605592948640) - Author of "Imperial Hubris: Why The West Is Losing The War On Terror"

You could always read about it online or in books as well.
