Rasmussen has launched a mirror of intrade - the stock market for political predictions. The Raz version doesn't accept money, but it has play money for all users. It is authenticated by address and email.

Everyone should go to the site right now, register (takes just a few minutes) and buy all of Ron's stock! Hopefully we can drive it up to the top. Giuliani currently leads at 29.

How is it spam-proof?

bc2208
12-28-2007, 01:54 PM
Spam in the sense of users voting more than once, i.e., deleting cookies on the AOL poll. In this, each user only gets a set amount of money, to be spent according to his desire.

I was just going to post this. Futures markets are considered a fairly reliable way to gauge the likelihood of an event happening. Of course, using fake money makes it somewhat less reliable.

Anyway, if you think Ron Paul will win the Republican nomination (and who here doesn't?), then you should sign up and buy some contracts (or enter some buy orders to support the price). This is much better than most online polls, and is being run by Rasmussen Reports, so it might even get some press.

Here is how futures markets work:

If you think an event will happen (in this case, Ron Paul win the Republican Nomination), you buy contracts. If you think it won't happen, you sell them. When the contract settles (when the nomination is decided in this case), it is worth either $10 (if he wins the nomination) or $0 (if he doesn't).

So, if you bought 10 contracts at 8.0 ($0.80/contract), your cost is $8, and you get $100 if he wins or nothing if he loses. On the other hand, if you sell 10 contracts at 8.0, you get $8 right now, and if he loses you pay nothing to the people who bought them from you, but if he wins you pay $100 to those people.

Anyhow, for those of you buying Ron Paul contracts (I already spent most of my money doing so, and the rest selling Giuliani), at this point I would recommend setting your own price in the 8-10 range. Rather than buying one contract at 40, you could buy 4 at 10. Also, the people selling them need to have $90 in reserve when they sell at 10, but only $60 when they sell at 40.

AgentPaul001

I confirmed this myself... i bought every order and drove the price up to 20... and kept putting in orders over 20.

It reset back down to 8.4 twice

Watch the daily graph.

And just a couple minutes ago, someone just sold 10000 shares at 9.3. Strange it was exactly 10000, when you can only sell 499 at a time

Someone is manipulating this.

if you buy all shares until you have no more money and the price is than by 20 it's not that crazy that the price is falling to 8.4 very fast. because you paid to much and everybody is able to sell is for 20 while knowing to be able to buy them in 5 minutes for 8.4 and because of that the price is at 8.4 even faster.

i like this game. the free market is really a nice game.

I made a shit-load of money when I rode the wave up to 40. I had plenty to spend.

Someone just deleted the huge ceiling at 9.3 and adjusted it down to 8.6 with 5000 shares.

There was still 5000 shares at 9.3, and then all of a sudden those are gone and 5000 shares appear at 8.6?

Watch the Order Book ((click on "More Info"))...

Look at this chart:
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/7427/raschartre3.jpg

There's no way the stock would "correct" like that on its own with that kind of volume.

I'm convinced that someone is manipulating this.

i'm pretty sure that there is no need for any "price corrections" - if ron paul shares cost 40 - its too high and it has to fall.

and it is no problem to sell 5000 pieces - you call sell several times 499 shares + an additional 10
10*499 = 4990 + 10 = 5000

you can enter these orders in less than 20 sec.

Here's what I sent:

I'm not sure you're aware of this ((however; I'm sure you are)) but someone is manipulating the value of the 2008.GOP.NOM.PAUL contracts.

I've been watching this contract for 2 hours now, and someone is changing the price of the contract and placing artificial trades. I've got screenshots of 5000 and 10000 ASK orders being placed at 9.3 and 8.6. When the contract climbs around 20, it's reset back to 8.

These kind of shenanigans aren't going to win Rasmussen any credibility points. I hope it stops.

Not rigged .... it is just acting like a thinly traded stock in the real market. That means if a bunch of us go in there and buy, we pay way too much, and eventually someone will come in and short the contract back to where the real cluster of bids are. As such, the "last" price means nothing, and you aren't guaranteed a fill at that price. You have to look at where the bids and offers are.

If everyone keeps bidding on Paul the market will work to correct the imbalance and push Paul down. The market will not only push Paul down, but all other candidates as well.

Earlier today the market was in balance with Paul at 4. Now, the market is in balance with Paul at 10. If you keep bidding on Paul the market will continue to push all candidates down. It will push hardest on Paul because that is the one trying to reshape the market, but little by little the market is reshaped. So, keep bidding on Paul.

Strategy here - don't bother buying at the ask price (the high price) unless there are a lot of bids at the price right below it, otherwise, the seller knows he can buy some at a lower price real soon and is just taking your money.

For example, right now the bid/ask looks like this:

Ask
12.8 - 135

Bid
12.7 - 2
12.3 - 91
10.6 - 450

The lack of bid support above 10.6 means the price will quickly fall down to that level if someone starts selling. So, the person selling at 12.8 has no fear, because he can just enter a bid at 10.7 and be fairly certain to buy back his shares for a $0.21 profit on each. The most useful (and profitable) thing you can do to prop up the price is to fill in the missing bids. Make the sellers come to you.

What would be cool is if we all gathered together and shorted some anti-liberty company in the real markets.

Since our movement is so large we could really hurt the stock price of some company - and make some money in the process.

I am not quite so sure how legal it would be however

I step away from the computer for an hour and you guys have Ron Paul all the way up to 26! He's almost in first. Great work everyone.

This would be much more convincing if we were doing it in the real money intrade market. I looked into it before the TeaParty, but it looks like it can be a real pain to actually get money into the thing.

As far as shorting the other guys - if you buy it back, you haven't done much good (other than possibly taken some money from their supporters). If you just hold it until they lose, you get to keep all the money.

So I figure Ron Paul would jump if I priced him high. I bought 450 shares at 55 and he has definitely gone up.

Does that mean I should not sell unless he gets above 55? :)

This thing is rigged.

We are back to 8 in a snap after being at 25-26 and with 1000s of shares up for bid in 8 - 25 range. This means that someone decided to sell so many cheap shares into the market that we dragged Paul's price down. Almost impossibility if this wasn't rigged. I am boycotting this BS.

Jason0352

Yeah this is bullshit. The orderbook (level3) 5 minutes ago showed good BID support from $15-$21. Totally manipulated.

I'd have to agree it's fishy. If someone observed us paying ridiculous prices, they would wait for us to come up rather than sell down.

But don't give up!

Nyte

notice how trading pauses every once in a while... then you get all these 200, 300, 400 (even number) trades forcing the price down.

promagma
12-28-2007, 11:53 PM
As long as it manages to hold 7-8, I don't think it is rigged. As it gets later, the momentum dried up and the shorts took advantage. But remember, they are now sitting on large short positions, and that means they have to *buy* again to unwind.

Nyte
12-28-2007, 11:54 PM
lol how can you say it's not rigged?

These shorts are coming out of thin air... There's no way in hell the floor falls out as fast as it's doing.

beobeli
12-29-2007, 12:01 AM
I think it is rigged.

But let's use it to make as much money as possible then we can command/short price of other shares. Basically, place multiple orders for selling Paul in 17-40 range , and have large buying orders for Paul at 8-9 range. As the price goes up, you cash in, then you buy again low when Rasmussen does their "adjustment". If the adjustment slows down, we can begin raising this buy back share price to provide floor support for Paul.

By offering to by low, someone needs to be willing to sell you low. Perhaps some dumb Huck traders are shorting all they got on Paul at 8.3/share. That is fine, but once we suck all their money out of them, they'll have zero weapons. Then we win.

Rasmussen has a disclaimer: Warning: People attempting to gain advantage using unfair practices will be excluded from the leaderboard.

I guess this means that they reserve a right to rig the system. It's not "unfair practice" for a market to be hot on a particular stock/candidate. WTF.

Yeah... shorting shares "out of thin air" would be a rigging tactic.
Rasmussen = Federal Reserve.

We can play this "game" forever and make money. But if you try to use that money to short "losers" there is going to be buying of shares again "out of thin air" to bail out losers. (Again Rasmussen = Federal Reserve)

What is Rasmussen really trying to measure here? Perhaps they want to take us away from more important things we could be doing for Paul.

In any case, I can't wait for Iowa and NH. That will be a real "market" unless that is rigged too.

I'm definitely suspicious. It will reserve $7 if you sell at 30, but only reserve $3 if you buy at 30. There would have needed to be a lot of people selling hiim off between 12:15 and 12:30 to bring him down from the 30's to the 8-9 region. Unfortunately, the Time & Sales data won't display back past 12:35pm for me.

if you already have the stocks you do not have to have the 7 dollars to sell it. you just can do it. and its really not that big risk at this moment to sell ron paul at 30 (in 2 weeks this may be different)
