Huckabee is running against Ron Paul on the same ticket. If Huckabee does something negative, it affects Ron Paul because Huckabees poll numbers will go down.

More to the point:

The Ron Paul grassroots exist largely to get Ron Paul elected. That occurs by getting people to vote for Ron Paul. Getting people to vote for Ron Paul involves making him seem the best choice to as many voters as can be reached. Making him seem the best choice involves:

(1) Accentuating his character and positions and the good that will come from them
(2) Demeaning other candidates' characters and positions to slide them down the preference list, and give Ron a clearer shot to the top

When Huckabee fires a shotgun over the heads of a crowd, while claiming to be a master hunter, that provides information that the grassroots can then use to accomplish objective (2) on the above list of ways to make Ron Paul seem the best choice.

Hence it's pertinence.

I also found it interesting that they quoted him saying he goes duck hunting 30 times a season in Arkansas, then they showed him having trouble figuring out how the saftey worked on his shotgun.
