Hey guys, today is the first full day of Christmas in Iowa, week two. I'll post updates and footage as I can.
With the arrival of students last night, campaign HQ had about 100 people doing work answering phones, calling Iowans, addressing envelopes, preparing literature for lit drops.
How fun to compare the activity in our HQ to the Huckabee HQ, across the hall from us in the same building! I've never seen more than 6 people in there at one time. Their office comprises about two rooms, ours has expanded to five large rooms that now almost completely encircle the Huckabee office.
At 8pm, over 200 students and around ten media outlets attended the rally for Ron Paul at the Des Moines Marriott. Dr. Paul was introduced by Jeff Frazee, who gave a quick briefing about the game plan for the students over the next week. Soon as I can get a DVI cable I'll upload footage of the rally and Dr. Paul's speech.
About 275 students RSVP'd for week two, compared with 60 or 70 in attendance for week one. Today we are splitting up into seven different camps all across Iowa. The plan for the early part of the week is to knock on doors and lit drop from 9am to sundown, then phone-bank from 6 to 9pm.
The staffers leading this operation have done amazing logistical preparation, and are working in close coordination with the tight ship being run by Drew Ivers at Des Moines HQ. All told, this Christmas in Iowa will have touched hundreds of thousands of Iowans. While other campaigns rely on automated phone calls and mass-mailings, the Ron Paul campaign is doing all that in addition to mobilizing its massive Iowa volunteer base to knock on thousands of doors, send thousands of hand-addressed letters, and make countless thousands of live phone calls.
It's hard not to be optimistic when we have the largest ground operation of any campaign in the state. The media knows we are here and they are hungry for information about what we are doing. (I personally was interviewed by the Huffington Post and a Chinese newspaper just last night, and by the Des Moines Register (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?p=685547#post685547) and the local ABC affiliate during week one.) The campaign will consider third place a success. All the right framework is in place and all the right work is being done to make that a reality.
Keep your chin up and work hard!
