Check out the above link to see how America feels about Ron Paul's Lincoln statements. It seems that the entire south agrees with Ron PAul and the entire North is against him. This has to say something.

It is very interesting the timing of this in my personal relationship with my wife. You see, I was raised in MA, RI and upstate NY and she was born and raised in Memphis TN. While driving to my folks house in Delaware we talked about the North-South like we had never done before (after 10 years of marriage) and it amazed me how much MORE she knew about the events of the Civil war from her public schooling in TN than myself. She said, how would you feel if your entire workforce was removed? How would that do for you financially? Also, she has direct decendants that had stories of the atrocities committed by Union Soldiers.
To now hear a hero of mine echo the exact same things my southern raised and educated wife said only days after we had the conversation....... well the timing is eerie.

As an aside to that I will also say we talked about fascism and America being more fascist-like the night before the interview where Sinclair Lewis was quoted.

Weird and solidifing that RP is the only candidate I will vote for 11-5-08

Please tell me you are registered (R) and voting in the Primary. We need people to vote now, not in November. There are no guarantees that Dr. Paul will run 3rd party if he doesn't win the GOP nomination.

Please get involved ASAP. Every vote counts.

As I have posted before, absentee in NY 2-5. Registered NY Republican living with travel nurse wife in Cincinnati (she will also be voting RP as she is a life-long Libertarian, but registered Republican)

If by some unfortunate happening, he does not get the R-nom, and doesn't run 3rd party, I will still write him in.

As far as getting involved goes, I tell everybody to tell everybody. Written 60 letters, have my signs on the front lawn in fron of cincinnati's second largest employers' parking lot, stamp every FRN I see, etc.

What a lame way for them to ask the question though.

No context is provided for why he said we shouldn't have fought it or what we should have done instead.

Most Americans probably have no idea of the various issues involved.

"no idea of the various issues involved"

they only know what they were taught in the government-run public schools, where the history was written and promoted by the victors.

I find this poll extra-interesting, as Vermont is showing up as 48% saying that Lincoln was wrong (41% agreed with him). Vermont is probably the most liberal state in the country, and has always been a leader in civil rights. We were the first state to outlaw slavery, the first to offer public education to everyone (black or white), the first to legalize civil unions, etc. We're also the only state in the country to have a socialist senator (Bernie Sanders) - and yes, I voted for him, I voted for Leahy (D), and I voted for Jeffords (I, former R) before he retired. I find it very interesting that a state (my home state) that would seem to be the polar opposite of a lot of what Ron Paul stands for, is agreeing with him on this issue.

By the way - Ron Paul is actually a lot more aligned with what Vermonters actually believe. Most of us want the Federal government to butt out. We're all adults here and are perfectly capable of running our own lives, thank you very much. We're perfectly capable of running our own social programs, etc. on the state level and do a much better job of it than the Feds have been doing.
