If you were president, what would you do?

I'd change the policy so we are LESS INVOLVED IN THEIR INTERNAL AFFAIRS.

We've aligned ourselves with a military dictator who was SUPPOSED to help us find Osama and that has not worked.

Our support for Musaref has contributed to the mess over there.

They're in a civil war - I would NOT send troops or more money.

We'd try to talk to people and urge them to get back to a sensible approach, I've already heard some saying let's put someone else in charge. We have GOT to stay out of these conflicts and let them sort it out for themselves.

Wolf says "you'd say no more money, intelligence, etc"

Ron said yes sounds good to me.

Wolf wouldn't you be afraid of the Taliban or AlQueda taking it over?

Ron said we supported a military dictator and that ENHANCED that situation, but I'm concerned about Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan too, and they're asking for more troops now, too. We're in too many messes we have GOT to take care of our people here at home.

Wolf brought up Defender of Freedom ad, asked if we have a role around the world:

Ron said "I'm offering NEUTRALITY." Stop subsidizing with foriegn aid or threatening them if they don't do what we order them to do.

Wolf asked how he's going to do in Iowa and NH, Ron says we'll do well - Wolf says be more precise - Ron refused to say first or second or quit? No, won't say - my obligation is to FULFIL OBLIGATION TO SUPPORTERS, CAMPAIGN HARD AND TO WIN.

THanks, Dr. Paul!

Whew, that's as much as I could catch.

Reposted from a diff thread:

Here's a comparison for you - Huckabee's response:

http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2007/12/27/politics/fromtheroad/entry3650191.shtml

With about 150 supporters crowded around a podium set up on the tarmac of Orlando Executive airport (and about 20 Ron Paul supporters waving signs outside) Mike Huckabee strode out to the strains of “Right Now” by Van Halen and immediately addressed the Bhutto situation, expressing “our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.”

He said the assassination is a reminder that here in the US, we are lucky to vote “not with bullets but with ballots,” and said “I guess we are sometimes lulled into failing to appreciate the magnitude” of the democratic process.

After moving onto other subjects in his rally (more on that in a moment) he took questions from the press. I asked him what he would do right now if he were President to tackle the situation. He avoided taking a strong policy position, saying he would offer sincere sympathies to the people of Pakistan, and monitor who’s behind it. When asked what he thinks of the Musharraf government and how it has handled the security situation and aid from the US, he replied, “I think today is not the best day to comment on what the Musharraf government should or shouldn’t have done” though “we need a full accounting of that money.” He was also asked if today’s news highlights why the next President needs to have foreign policy, which he lacks. His reponse: “I think it’s more important to have the right principles for the American people.”

He made a bad choice of words when saying the U.S. needs to consider “what impact does it have on whether or not there’s going to be martial law continuing in Pakistan.” He should have said whether or not martial law will be reinstated – it was lifted nearly two weeks ago. A minor slip, maybe, but not a subject he wants to mess up on when he is already considered weak in the area of foreign policy.

People earlier today were thinking that the Bhutto assassination was the end of the Paul campaign.

I deplore the incident, but I knew as time passed the involvement of Musharraf in her assassination and our policy of propping him up would become the REAL headline. This is coming to fruition... and we must reap the fruit. Ron Paul will become the "go to" guy for non-interventionist interviews such as this.

The neo-con’s have lead us down this path, and we must reverse course.

Dave Pedersen
12-27-2007, 04:41 PM
He did great.

One more thing he could emphasize is that we the people can lead by example. We can show other nations what it means to be truly free. We can show people that freedom DOES work. That offers a positive role rather than simply a neutral role.

If we want to assume any responsibility to other nations it should be by way of example.

Dr. Paul has said this before and he can push this concept at every opportunity.

Unfortunately there will be more instances and examples of our failing foreign policy before the election.

Fortunately, these events will play a role in convincing people that we can have a more positive and productive role as a world leader by providing an example of what it means to be a free and democratic society that values personal freedom through a new and different foreign policy.

We have to win their hearts and minds and that is not going to be accomplished by force.
