Everything I heard Doctor Paul say about this was either a question or a reference to historical events. It sounds to me like these old media types would like for everyone to believe that Doctor Paul is trying to rewrite history, when the fact of the matter is Lincoln did say that if he could save the union with slavery he would do it.

So no, slavery was not the reason that Lincoln was putting pressure on the south. Slavery was a convenient scape goat that Lincoln used to consolidate the power of the National Government. Anyone who has more than a cursory understanding of history knows that the civil war was fought for more than just slavery.

Sure slavery was and is terrible, however during that time period our country accepted slavery as part of life. It was the law of the land. The main problem that led to the Civil War was that POLITICIANS were not communicating with each other effectively enough to compromise.

First of all, who cares what ANY candidate thinks about the civil war. Second, why in the world wouldn't any credible journalist understand that there are two sides to any story, even the precious revered ones that are taught to us as dogma in the public school...

...which by the way I have now confirmed that I will never send my children to. My kid is not going to be indoctrinated by the state. This campaign has shown me how dangerous public schooling is. Civil War?

Don't you have anything better to question Doctor Paul about? I think Dr. Paul made his point rather clear on Meet the Press. The civil war could have been avoided if the Federal Government respected the people. The Civil War was a very tragic event in our history that set the stage for a power hungry Federal Government that would do anything to maintain control over the country and it's people.
