BENTONVILLE - The Benton County Republican Committee will soon hold a straw poll featuring representatives of the six GOP presidential candidates on the ballot in Arkansas.

To be held Jan. 22 as part of the committee's regular meeting, the straw poll is the committee's way of sharing information about the GOP presidential candidates on the Arkansas ballot. The candidates are Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John Mc-Cain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, said George Spence, county GOP committee chairman.

Before the nonbinding vote, representatives of the candidates will have five minutes to address various subjects, including the war on terror, immigration, taxes and others.

Voters in the straw poll will include Republican county committee members and members of various GOP political clubs in the county, Spence said.

Eligible voters will be limited to Republicans, but people ready to join the committee in 2008 will be allowed to vote in the straw poll, too.
