Free parking at the Des Moines Marriott on Dec 27th?

The hotel has valet parking for $17 per day. I called the hotel and asked the receptionist about free parking, and she said there is city parking nearby for $13 dollars day.

But I'd still like to find a free option. Does anyone know if there is one? I don't mind an extra walk.

Parking downtown is free during the evenings. I know that for sure. Otherwise there are parking garages and meters during the day.
