On Christmas, Pope Urges End to Wars
By NICOLE WINFIELD,Associated Press
Posted: 2007-12-25 12:03:56
VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI issued a Christmas Day appeal Tuesday to political leaders around the globe to find the "wisdom and courage" to end bloody conflicts in Darfur, Iraq, Afghanistan and Congo.

...
"May the child Jesus bring relief to those who are suffering and may he bestow upon political leaders the wisdom and courage to seek and find humane, just and lasting solutions," he said.
...

My comments:

The pope, if he truly wants peace, should contact the Ron Paul campaign and meet with Ron Paul. I doubt the campaign would desire to actively seek the meeting, because Ron Paul would prefer to keep politics and religion separate, but there is nothing stopping the Pope from being the initiator of the meeting if he truly desires PEACE.

How do I contact Pope Benedict XVI?

Snail mail:

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI
Vatican City State, 00120
Italy

From culturalcatholic.com:

Pope Benedict XVI's email addresses:

English: benedictxvi@vatican.va

Italian: benedettoxvi@vatican.va

Spanish: benedictoxvi@vatican.va

French: benoitxvi@vatican.va

German: benediktxvi@vatican.va

Portuguese: bentoxvi@vatican.va

Pope Benedict XVI is fluent in German, English, Italian, French, and Spanish and has knowledge of Portuguese. Pope Benedict XVI can also speak classical Latin.

Although the pope reads several languages, the email addresses are different because the email messages are screened by the pope's assistants who may only read in the language of the email. The assistants forward a synopsis of the email or the full email onto the pope or answer the email themselves whichever is appropriate.

From about.com:
"It is unlikely you will receive a personal response if you send an email to the pope, but the Holy See does read, collect and route all mail. The Pope possibly has another private email address inside the Vatican. "

Although many misread/mishear such comments believing that you can end war with more war. :( That is what is sad.

someone could make a good Catholic video with quotes from the pope and the vatican, they have spoken against the war in Iraq, torture, "preemtive war", etc

Someone call the pope and have him endorse Ron Paul. That would be something, wouldn't it? :)

If the Pope really wants peace, he should be the one calling Ron Paul. Seriously.

Benedict XVI and the American Cardinals' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Cardinals_by_country#USA) endorsement would be awesome.

Regardless of any of our individual religious beliefs, why cannot we make this happen for the sake of peace?

We claim to be organized and that we can accomplich the impossible. Can we make this happen?

This video really needs to get around. I have posted this link many times and it seems to be new to people every time-- so share it!

On principle, I wouldn't really like to see a foreign head of state endorsing one of our presidential candidates, even one as good as Ron Paul.

To preempt a legality scuffle before one starts, here's a repost of a post by aspiringconstitutionalist:

As for the notion that US Reps can't meet with foreign heads of state (I don't know who told you that), I present you

I don't think B16 is Jesuit!

However, his onetime connection to Neil Bush is, well, most peculiar.

Come on. The pope is not going to endorse a secular candidate for elected office in a secular country. That's just ridiculous. Even when the pope and bishops talk about how pro-choice, pro-same-sex-marriage Catholic politicians shouldn't recieve communion they do not name names. To suggest the pope would openly endorse any political candidate, anytime, anywhere, is just silly.

P.S. The pope isn't a stooge for the NWO either. He's spoken out against many of its trappings: unjustified war, the "Culture of Death," moral relativism, etc. Don't be ridiculous.

I know Bush has met with the Pope who has endorsed acts of violence in the past. I caught midnight mass, and there was enough that struck me as "off" that I am even leery of the messages of promoting good and creating heaven on earth.

I can promise you you will never hear from the Pope or anyone in the Church. I'm pretty sure someone is trying to rein in the flock here. This thread is a dangling carrot.

What acts of violence has the pope endorsed??? What struck you as 'off' in what Mass? The fact that you are leery about messages "promoting good" seems to reflect more on you than him. Pope Benedict is not a utopianist. I don't know why some people here seem to want to rope into some kind of conspiracy theory.

I cannot speak for the Vatican, but I think they are very reluctant to get involved in the political arena. Yes, that sounds odd because the Church used to be the supreme level of government in past centuries but is the situation today.

I think a meeting between Ron Paul and Pope Benedict would be fantastic (Huckleberry would never receive nor request such a thing). Again, we should not get our hopes up because of the very reticence in political engagement of which I just spoke. The pope has spoken out against the war, global warming fear mongering, secularism, etc. Let's judge by the tree by its fruits.

Uh oh, it looks like this thread is teetering on the edge of bashing one group...

Can we just stick to the subject without bashing a group. It seems that anytime a thread starts out innocently talking about a group, whether it's Mormons, Catholics, evangelical, athiests etc, the conspiracy brigade jumps in and completely hijacks the thread.

I don't care what your color, creed, etc etc., we're all hear because we want politicians to follow the law of our constitution. Can we stick with that?
