here in central IL, we're doing what we can with our meetup group. we have an activity set up for this weekend, canvasing the college here in Peoria. also, i've started plans for setting up a booth at our "heart of illinois fair" this year, it starts this weekend. also, i'm hoping to get a large contingency of people to attend the state fair this year on Aug 16th for the Republican straw poll.

slow going, but making progress.

All this will change once Ron wins the Iowa and New Hampshire straw polls.

How the hell is giuliani 30%? If these polls are reality, I'm frightened of this country's future. Here is a guy, that says things almost identical to Hitler...uh, its all because of the propoganda of 911.

Ghouliani has the name rec, that RP doesnt. IL is usually a blue state, so the only Rep's in the state are the hard core ones. so it doesnt surprise me. that's why i'd like to get as many people at the state fair on Aug 16th for the straw poll. even if RP doesnt win it, we could make a great showing, and intro him to alot of new people.

We've had a lot of outreach in the Chicagoland area, with a Ron Paul presence in 4th of July parades, and handing out literature at several large festivals, including the Taste of Chicago which just ended. We hope to get some folks down to the Illinois straw poll on the 16th too to help out our down-state brethren.

That 3% among independents is great to see. Looks like only a couple other candidates go up with independents, and none of the "second tiers."

These "1% in the polls" threads bring me down. Don't we know by now not to take these polls seriously?! And it probably doesn't look good to new visitors.

Polls change, the message stays the same.

Once people hear about Ron Paul it's game over for everyone else.

Just keep telling people and we'll be ok :)

The polls are serious and a reflection of the work we need to do to get Dr. Paul's name and message out there. Honestly, hardly anyone knows who he is, unfortunately. The polls reflect this reality. Then again, very few people actually vote in the primaries...

According to the site, Ron Paul also got only 1% in New Hampshire, yet he somehow managed to get 65% in the straw poll.

I wonder how they get their numbers.

I'm doing my best in my area, just getting my meetup up and going. I've noticed that there doesnt appear to be a meetup in Sprinfield, though and that is a very very important area to have representation. Is there some way to start one up for them withought having to fork out another $72?

They are measuring two different things! The scientific poll was of statewide Republicans, but the straw poll was just members of that one (anti-tax, I think offhand) group.

Wyrum, great and keep up the good work! Perhaps a guardian angel will offer to help offset the cost of another group. If not, just advertise in other areas via Craigslist, the announcements section of ALL of the local papers between your Meetup group and the neighboring ones, and anywhere else!

Being from Illinois myself, I know that it is the most socialist nightmare state anywhere in the country, so its no suprise about the 1 percent. Hell, even republicans here would be considered democrats in any other state. :D

I wouldnt take much credence in this poll.

Obama will win this state even if God himself ran against him, no doubt about it.

Thats the thing. Chicagoans are VERY PROUD of their City and love it. Their sports fans are stronger then any other cities.

They have been spoon fed ideas that giuliani is the hero of big cities that could be targeted by terrorists as well as being the hero of Fire fighters.

he strikes a cord there.

The scum on Guliani hasn't hit the mainstream voter there yet. My mom and sister had no idea how much the NYFD HATES HIM and why. Once they heard that from me, he was soured for them.

They also did not know who Ron Paul was as of two weeks ago. They do now. :)

If anyone in Illionois wants to take Guliani down, spread the word about how much the NYFD hates him. Research their beef with him first. That is all it will take to turn off most Chicagoans at least.

If not that, Chicago also voted to become a Green city and is becoming very progressive with environmental initiatives. Tell them that Rudys law firm takes lobby money from Citgo.

Rudy is easy to take down if you can get the ear of someone who supports him.

Remind people that he was warned after the first WTC bombing to get his head quarters out of that building. he did not, and when 9/11 happened, he had no where to mobilize and run the show from, which cost more lives. he was also told to get radios up to spead and never did.

It seems most New Yorkers see him as being the cities idiot, not hero.

For the Chicago metro area Republicans, Paul is an easy sell. For those in the rural areas, showing them Pauls down to earthiness is all it will take to win them over. They hate city slicker types.

However, the state is a huge wellfare recipient state and that is why the Dems ussually take it. That is where it will be difficult to sway lower income Dems on him.

Illionois over all is a more challenging state for Paul to take for that reason.

Yet, maybe there are enough people growing tired of watching people buying steaks with food stamps and watching section H policies ruin their suburbia neighborhoods. .

I don't understand how Rudy is so high in the polls here. I don't know ANYONE that likes him. I know tons of people in Chicago and tons of people around Mattoon (downstate). They either think he's Hitler or a liberal depending on where you are in the state.

Hell, people have been protesting Rudy as long as they've been protesting the war... which was day one. Seriously confusing poll.

Just got an email from a related list:

Our campaign to elect Ron Paul is surging at 20,000 RPM’s. That’s 20k Ron Paul supporters in over 400 groups across America. That’s 100% growth in exactly one month. Could we be at 40,000 members by August 10th?

Remember, if you are a Ron Paul Meetup Organizer, you can organize up to 3 meetups at no additional cost with your account. You can establish meetups in adjacent communities and then pass the Organizer baton over to someone else once the meetup builds up. Once a meetup gets started, it tends to act as a lightening rod or magnet; people are drawn to it and start to sign up as soon as it is started.

There are still many capital cities and leading population centers without Ron Paul Meetups. We need to seed new meetups where they are most needed. Here are some resources:

Top 50 Cities in the U.S. by Population and Rank: http://www.infoplea se.com/ipa/ A0763098. html

State Capitals and Largest Cities: http://www.infoplea se.com/ipa/ A0763765. html

The easiest way to find out if there is an RPM in a given city:

Go to http://ronpaul. meetup.com/ cities/us/
Click on the state
Click on the city
See what comes up

If you want to be part of the Adopt a City Project, please send me a direct email with your name, email address and city.

We’ve lost track of the number of meetups seeded by the “Adopt a City” Project, but it’s around 40. If you want to have a real impact from the safety and comfort of your computer, join us in this project. We’ll show you how to seed meetups and spread the Ron Paul Revolution beyond the borders of your own city or even to another state. Anyone can help. Thanks for all the great work you are all doing. WE ARE WINNING!

Yours in support of Ron Paul for President,

Steven Vincent
