OK Football fans... we need help with some specific information as we try to arrange an appearance of the Blimp over NFL Playoff & College Bowl Games:

Here are the events to which we are going to attempt to gain access:
• December 28th in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl
Boston College vs Michigan State
• January 1st in Orlando at the Capital One Bowl
Michigan vs Florida
• January 5 or 6 in Tampa Bay
NFL Playoff game (we need help with more details)

Here is what we need... first, please read the FAQ regarding restrictions when flying over these types of events FAA Restrictions (http://www.ronpaulblimp.com/blog/archives/121)

We need your help with the following information:
1. We need more details about the NFL Playoff game in Tampa on Jan 5 or 6.
2. Under whose auspices are the College Bowl games sanctioned? Who is broadcasting the games?
3. Contact information... does anyone know a head management official of the network broadcasting any of these games? Do you know the an owner of the NFL teams playing in Tampa? Do you know the athletic director or university president playing in the bowl games? What about an alumni with big-time influence at the school? If you have an inside contact who can and will help we need their contact information.

CAVEAT AND DISCLAIMER...
• Getting such a waiver will be challenging. An inside track could be our best bet, such as a team owner or director of athletics for one of the schools.
• Weather along the eastern seaboard and much of the south for the week following Christmas does not look promising. It is not likely the Blimp can reach the Citrus Bowl in time. The anticipated weather may slow our progress to Florida in general and could compromise the possibility of "working" these games.
• We will attempt to make the best showing we can for the Blimp and Ron Paul. Please keep in mind that this is a long shot with little time to arrange.
• There are other scheduling considerations such as reaching the heavily Republican area of southern Florida, returning to South Carolina as their election approaches, working Atlanta, the headquarters of CNN, Alabama/Georgia/Tennessee and Super Tuesday... OK, too much information... there are other schedule considerations and they will have to be weighed in the decisions.
• Airship Crew time off... we have some flexibility here and will need to coordinate with the Airship company and crew to achieve the best results.

Please post your information here, EXCEPT CONTACT INFORMATION (if you have names and numbers PM me), so we have it in a single thread so others can see the information and know what else is needed.

The Tampa Bay game most likely won't be until Jan 12-13. The wild-card is on the 5-6th. Looking at their standing, I think they are already mathematically in the division playoffs.

Sorry, can't help you with the other stuff.

That's incorrect. The 3rd and 4th seed division winners (Tampa Bay is locked in as one of these) host a wild card playoff game and that will be on the weekend of January 5-6.

I strongly recommend being in the Orlando area between the 28th and 1st, even if you can't get clearance to actually go over the stadium. These bowl games will draw hundreds of thousands of extra tourists to the area. On the 29th, 30th, and 31st I recommend traveling between Orlando and Disney World. I expect many of the tourists coming to see the games will also spend some time at Disney World for their New Years celebration (which I will be attending myself).

Here is a list of College Bowl games. I prioritized them according to the crowd they will draw and added an accessibility rating based on how disruptive the game's location will be to the blimp's route.

Florida Bowl Game Schedule:

Champs Sports Bowl
Dec. 28th, 5:00 PM EST; Orlando
Michigan State vs. Boston College
Priority: Low , Accessibility: Easy

Outback Bowl
Jan. 1st, 11:00 AM EST; Tampa
Wisconsin vs. Tennessee
Priority: Moderate, Accessibility: Moderate

Capital One Bowl
Jan. 1st, 1:00 PM EST; Orlando
Michigan vs. Florida
Priority: High, Accessibility: Easy

FedEx Orange Bowl
Jan. 3rd, 1:00 PM EST; Miami
Virginia Tech vs. Kansas
Priority: High, Accessibility: Hard

I suggest the blimp be in New Orleans and surronding areas the day (or two) before the National championship game between LSU and Ohio State. The game is Monday Jan. 7th. New Orleans will be packed all weekend before the game.
Even Monday the 7th would be good. It is a night game. Media from all over the country will be in New Orleans.I will call all the Baton Rouge news channels.

We will be working the states with earlier primaries... including South Carolina and Florida. We will not be able to reach New Orleans in the time frame we have available. Would take two days at Blimp speed. We would certainly like to have more time, and shorter distances, so we could visit every state. Unfortunately, this is not the case. So we will be working Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and hopefully Tennessee prior to Super Tuesday. We have some fixed dates and locations and are working with the flight crew on a more detailed flight path.

As of now there are two games we are targeting... The Capital One Bowl in Orlando on January 1st and the NFL game in Tampa Bay on January 5th. Other games may not be possible as we intend to be in South Carolina for the election on January 19th and in Tampa Bay for the Florida election on January 29th. However, a list of potential NFL games, dates and locations would be good to know.

But, sorry, the Bowl Game in LA is not one of our options.

The only bowl game in the south (outside of La) after Jan. 1st is the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Al. I recommend not going to that bowl simply because it will not draw much of a crowd and would distract the blimp from more populated areas.

Also, there is one more bowl game in Florida that I overlooked: The Gator Bowl in Jacksonville on January 1st at 1:00 PM EST. I'd call it a low priority game that would be disruptive to the flight plan (pending whatever it is).

Thanks for the info... currently the weather for that weekend looks "iffy" and we are expecting possible cloud cover and isolated rain... a bit too far off to tell for sure. We are trying to come up with a flight path that allows for better certainty for media rides and exposure... and, participation by Ron Paul supporters and meetups.

So, we are not planning on Jacksonville on that weekend but intend to be there later as the weather begins to clear out.

Still tentative... but here is the plan:
We will attempt to gain access and work the following games. If possible we will actually work the games so we can be overhead during the events. If not, we will circuit the area as FAA regulations allow.

Capital One Bowl Jan. 1st, 1:00 PM EST; Orlando Michigan vs. Florida
NFL Playoff Game Jan. 5th, TBD; Tampa Bay TBD

Note that there are FAA restrictions regarding flights over Disney World and we will adhere to those regulations... mokkan88, wear a Navy Ron Paul shirt and a red hat and we will look for you in the crowd. :)

We will then be moving south toward the Miami area. A more detailed itinerary will be posted in the next couple of days. We are working on details with the flight crew.

Haha, I'll try, but good luck with all the people in the crowd.

Also, if you want to make a trip to Miami, you might try to be in Miami on the 2nd or 3rd of January, when all the Orange Bowl tourists are in town. I'm not sure what your schedule is, but if it is at all possible I recommend this rather than after the 5th.

The Clemson vs. Auburn matchup in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year's Eve gives the game as much of a local feel as it can have without an in-state team. No. 22 Auburn (8-4) will travel 100 miles northeast. No. 15 Clemson (9-3) will travel 120 miles southwest.

Why not Clemson Auburn?

Because we expect poor weather conditions for the Blimp in the Atlanta area. We are going straight to Florida and moving toward the center and west coast due to current weather forcasts.

Florida and Michigan also have earlier primaries and we want to get as much exposure in the early primary states as possible. We have to plan for Blimp off-time and the logisitics make Florida the most viable target.

We have had problems with maintenance issues and the weather. We want to give the Blimp the best possibility of flight and exposure at the earliest and most reliable opportunity.

As the late game the Blimp would be ruled out because of darkness. We could film the game... but we would not be very well noticed. Are there any day games in the Orlando or Tampa areas on the weekend of the 5th?
Jacksonville & Miami will put us out of position.

The date and time are not official, but that is the rumor. Football fans tailgate in the stadium parking lots for several hours before the game, especially early before playoff games, so I'm sure the blimp would be noticed if it got there early before the game.

The Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando (Boston College vs. Michigan State) is supposed to kickoff at 5:00 PM on Friday. Probably a little too late in the evening for a good bowl buzzing, but a good place to be during the game until it got too dark.

At this point I am making getting the blimp to Orlando by Friday a 2 to 1 odds bet.

Also, I'm taking action on the BC/Michigan State game at ronpaulsportsbook.com (BC -3 1/2 points). Admiral Poindexter--who once proposed that the U.S. government run a sports book/betting exchange to take "prediction" bets on the outcomes of the government's various foreign schemes, invasions, and other adventures--is our chief linesmaker.

Wolfgang Bohringer

Oh, I see now that from the blimp schedule that they will just be in Jacksonville by Friday, so that -200 price is a very bad price. That's what happens when you hire retired bureaucrats from the military industrial complex to set your betting lines! I'd fire him, but he keeps the FBI off of our backs down here in the islands.

It looks like on Jan. 1 the Capital One Bowl in Orlando kicks off at 10:00 AM and the Outback Bowl in Tampa (Wisconsin vs. Tennessee) starts at 8:00 AM.

On Jan. 5, the Orange Bowl in Miami starts at 5:00 PM.

Sorry, Tarzan I was looking at the times in the sports section of the Las Vegas Review Journal which were Pacific time--you're right its 8 Eastern time.

So our only chance for a good bowl game is Jan 1 in Tampa (kickoff 11 AM Eastern) or Orlando (1 PM). Can you keep us updated on any last minute airspace rulings or anything else that might prevent the blimp from buzzing either of these 2 games?

Correct. According to what we know, lighting has been factored into the planning and implementation. Very much looking forward to seeing the lighting on the blimp in the many pictures that we've been told will be posted on the site. If for whatever reason those pictures can't be posted on the blimp site, I'm sure we'll have plenty of pictures from grassroots blimp enthusiasts.

And plan ahead those that will be at the game-- as we know, youtube or it didn't happen.

Yes, the FedEx Orange Bowl is at 8:00 pm on January 3rd.

You might still try to make it there during the daytime to get the attention of tailgaters. Most of the hundreds of thousands of tourists from West Virginia and Kansas will have left the day after the game.

A few Ron Paul signs around the stadium might be called for....

Wrong (kinda)... Miami Dolphins already did that! :)
(of course, it was a shorter season... 17-0-0)

Posted this in the other "ask us questions" thread, but it would seem more pertinent here.

Well, if the blimp is still flying on Jan 26th, might I humbly suggest that it comes down to Mobile, AL for the Senior Bowl? Mobile County Alabama is also voting on Jan 30th even though the rest of the state votes on Feb 5th. We do this because we have a lot of Mardi Gras parades on that Tuesday(Fat Tuesday I think it is?) The Senior Bowl is usually packed with tens of thousands of people and I believe I saw that it will be televised. Also, we usually have a few Mardi Gras parades going on in the weeks before and after Fat Tuesday, so there are thousands more captive audience members on the streets of Mobile looking up in the air for parade throws ;)

If the primary race is still indecisive at that point in time, then Mobile County might become a miniature Iowa for exit pollsters since the results of our voting aren't released until the rest of the state votes on Jan 30th. If Dr. Paul shows well there, exit pollsters show up in droves, and the media actually reports the exit polling, it may give people courage to get out and vote for him or to google him to find out why he is doing so well.

The Senior Bowl is an allstar College Bowl game. Essentially you hit 2 or 3 birds with one stone. Senior Bowl, Mardi Gras parades, and early primary(Jan 30th for Mobile County) which may be covered by exit pollsters. Florida is also right next door with it's early primary. Unknown if the blimp will still be up though :( Would love it if the blimp could swing around Mobile on its way back up north to DC in early January just in case.
