View Full Version : Ron Paul Gum: about to go live and accept orders!

GregVernon
12-23-2007, 12:50 AM
Hey guys, me again. I've been working really hard on getting a order page set up for Ron Paul Gum (yay for not sleeping!), I hope to have it good to go really soon (tomorrow night, I hope) to accept pre-orders for Ron Paul Gum.

Updated!
But first, I need your feedback on our current design:
http://ronpaulgum.info/designs/lee.fisk/gumTruthFinal2.png

Post feedback below and in the poll. Of course if you have an idea, post it!

If you do not like the design, please post why.

Ok, I'll let our graphic designer know that.

Ha ha, that would be awesome. I think we have 2 different target markets though, the Ron Paul Gum is meant as a handout for meetup groups when canvasing. It seems like Ron Paul Band-aids would not be as effective in that area.

This is a huge opportunity, so I'm going to go ahead and say (lovingly) that this design is terrible.

The gum idea is such a great way to get his record out there. The paper wrapper on each stick should have "A Brief Overview of Congressman Paul's Record" on at least one side.

Edit: Oh, I see, this is the outer wrapper for the whole pack. Well, it still ought to have the brief overview on one side. And the palette is wrong IMO. You should stick to the 3-color palette used in the red-white-blue "President * 2008" posters.

i like the colors and the design a lot. the message.... i think could be something better.

12-23-2007, 01:49 AM
I agree, the colors are Great!, very effective for the message. (The red/white/blue suggestion, by the way, sounds horrible. Red/white/blue Gum I would automatically associate with someone abusing the US colors for propoganda).

"Authority is not Truth. Truth is Authority" - sounds a little vague, to me...it could mean anything, and not everyone is going to give it the benefit of the doubt and bother looking up Ron Paul's web site...

nice design ..

i would prefer if we could get his face onto the packaging though -- with a wink and a thunbs up sort of style. and a slogan saying "Believe in Ron Paul! Believe in yourself!"

That way it doesn' tmake an overly strong statement and Anyone can buy it and anyone we offer it towill accept it. That would be a much easier and faster way to spread the message. Then ship it out in pack of 100 (like wrigleys or chicklets) to milkbars all over America.

As a 20 year old male, the design appeals to me.

It reminds me of the video for "Tell The Truth", a mashup of Mos Def, Eminem and Immortal Technique.

Not sure if you were going for that :P

I received a newer design from Lee, which wasn't as popular among the Ron Paul Gum staff. It has his campaign promises on it, do you like this one better?
http://ronpaulgum.info/designs/lee.fisk/gumtruth2-1.png

Also, it was noted (in a private message) that we do not have http://www.ronpaulgum.com registered, that is correct. The domain that is in the template is incorrect, our website is http://www.ronpaulgum.INFO . I hope that clears up any confusion.

i suggest don't make it a fresh modern art deco bold style

make it old style federation constitution -- like those old style sweets

i still think you should use ron paul's face, smiling, with a thiumbs up

Message should not be political. He should be a brand unto himself. The brand should aim to last BEYOND THE ELECTIONS. eg : "Believe in Ron Paul! Believe in yourself!"

I suggest blue and white colour but no red.

cicatrice
12-23-2007, 05:06 PM
I have no idea where I heard this, but it does sound reasonable. Food-related products are usually advertised in warm colors (reds, yellows, oranges). When I see a blue gum wrapper, I associate it with Winter Fresh and that design has never gripped me in the same manner a Juicy Fruit wrapper has.

I like the modern bold style because I'd actually want to take a pack with me (if I weren't necessarily a Ron Paul supporter). Something that appears antiquated (especially a gum wrapper) may unconsciously have me associate it with something old hence gross (and it's happened to me before when I came across foreign gum brands).

And the yellow, red, black scheme is not solely a Kill Bill phenomenon. It's been around since the days of Bauhaus. I think those colors just go nicely together and has a certain visual impact that captivates the beholder. *former graphic design major*

We expect to have several different packages printed up until the 2008 elections in November, one of those designs will be reminiscent of 1800's - Early 1900's style food packaging, for right now we are trying to get one design out the door before we really focus on others. If you would like to contribute designs we would more than welcome them, post them on our design center. (http://www.ronpaulgum.info/board/viewforum.php?f=2)

I don't actually need it -- I was just worried about using space in the design that I didn't actually have because it was reserved for nutritional information. Good to know that isn't the case.

I don't see why not, how truthful do you think Romney, Guiliani or Huckabee are? Ron Paul will stick by his word.
I was thinking more of the media having associated Dr. Paul with 9/11 truthers.

Edit: I'm no graphic designer, so I'm not saying my design is any good in that sense...I just really want to see those bullet points (or close to them, anyway) in the design. That combination of information just about instantly sells Dr. Paul.

250 Packs costs $269.99 @ $1.0799/pack
500 Packs costs $524.99 @ $1.0499/pack

Then shipping on top of that...

I don't know, what's wrong with using the r3VOLution logo on a yellow background?

then its cool enough to be on a gum pack, easy enough to be noticed as RP propaganda, and you can have the issues on the other side.....

this is not rocket science. If I'm honest, the official blue colour and official logo looks square in the extreme.

Thats something we can work on for a second edition. From the polls this was well received, as the first Primaries and Caucuses are approaching I'd like to get one out the door as fast as possible.

The problem with sticks is space. The "blister" packaging allows for much more text to be (legibly) placed on the wrapper. Also, as some other people have noted, when they eat sticks of gum they just throw out the wrapper, which wouldn't help much...

Greg Vernon,

I just want to say I think your RP gum project is pretty cool. I can't wait to buy some to pass out.

I have to admit that when I first read your posts about this gum, I thought it was just a parody. I also thought it sounded dumb, just as I thought of the blimp. Now I have bought ad time on the blimp and want to use the gum as a conversation starter.

Next time someone doesn't instantly convert to Ron Paul for you, remember they might just need some repetition of good messages before they commit.

Thanks for all you are doing for our freedom.

Selling it on the counter *could* get you into trouble if it isn't going into the register, but, giving it away and advertising it as free could give you some wiggle room. You could always say you didn't notice it, maybe a customer put it there.

Someone could make a youtube video of people being tricked by Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, Hillary, etc. gum.

The ad would be amusing and show real people's reactions to getting tricked. Then show the Ron Paul Gum with people enjoying it. "Don't get scammed. Get Freedom Sticks." or something along those lines.

If done effectively this video will go viral and reach a lot of people.

Just talked to the vendor, due to the contract we have already negotiated (back when we were attempting to form a PAC) the gum will be sold AT COST ($1.02/pack) and we will be in "backorder mode" (as we cannot order more than what has been placed through us) until a new contract can be arraigned.

Hopefully people will be able to place orders later tonight/early tomorrow.

Update: this contract may be changed to allow for more gum to be ordered, I'm hoping it will be.

I made the decision to promote RonPaulLibrary.com over the campaign's website because, just like the Blimp folks, I feel like people don't like politics that much. Its an easy change and if enough people (maybe like 5 or so) feel it should be changed it will.

I actually like it quite a bit. Its a simple message, and links to a vital site. Give it out with other items though, perhaps, but its a nice thing to give to people that may have a small effect. Love the idea, Greg, and the enthusiasm, just wish youd have gotten the ball rolling on this earlier :-D. Its alright though, get it out asap!

Also, if for some reason this is unable to be dissiminated and dispersed by a reasonable time (such as, by super tuesday), then change the wrappers to something with a message of liberty and a link to a good site, but keep the "liberty chew" PAC idea going, so long as it doesnt cost too much of your own personal funds. Small projects like this contribute in important ways.
