View Full Version : Door to Door is EASY and FUN and EFFECTIVE

I'm now a believer in door to door canvassing.

Today was my first day, and oh boy, I wish I'd started sooner. It was surprisingly easy too, and I've never done this before; I'm not a salesman.

It is also the MOST rewarding to get the word out.

So many people out there will support Ron Paul and had NO PLANS to vote in the Primaries.

GET OUT THERE PEOPLE. We have the NUMBERS. If every Ron Paul supporter who's active on the internet went out and did a few dozen homes, it will be a SLAM DUNK in the primaries.

The main objective now is to get people to register Republican NOW (for states with closed primaries), and to vote for Ron in the PRIMARIES.

We are a veritable ARMY. The only way to ensure victory at this point is to get as many supporters doing DOOR TO DOOR. That means YOU. YES, YOU!

We CANNOT rely on the mass media to do any honest reporting, nor can we rely on the Internet. DOOR to DOOR is THE most EFFECTIVE way for individuals to get the word out.

This is essential.

Everyone really needs to do this.

Good deal !! Could you post what you typically say, what your strategy is? What you give them?

the internet was useful for bringing us activists and those passionate about politics together in one place.

now we have to spread the word to everyone else, by any and every means legally available to us.

we could be an army and think of how much more exposure we could get if we supplemented door to door with Ron Paul wraps! We could grow larger than the fleet of red-bull cars in a few days... I volunteered my car, u can too! free and removable, and the only risk is to not do it...

I'm planning on doing this as soon as I get some slimjims. The campaign was supposed to get them to me by Christmas.... Doesn't look like that's going to happen.

good idea

more effective then donations.

someone coming to your door enthusiastic about a candidate cannot be converted into political advertising on tv. it's just so much more powerful.

I am using a pack of the following:-

1. Dear American Letter
http://files.meetup.com/593250/Dear%20American.doc

2. Ron Paul's Strategy on Terrorism
http://files.meetup.com/593250/Ron%20Paul%27s%20Strategy%20on%20Terrorism.doc

3. Ron Paul Slim Jim (mainly the one with Reagan on it)

4. Ron Paul Liberty Card (so they see the Ron Paul #1 information)

5. Voter Registration Form

6. Ron Paul: A Man For All Seasons DVD (for people who would like more information)

When they answer the door I say I am a volunteer for the Ron Paul for President Campaign and that I am offering free information. I also say that Ron Paul is for limited constitutional republican government and that he has a 16 year Congressional voting record which proves he is a man of integrity.

I try and keep it brief so I can move on to the next house.

Ugh, if you're in Florida, PLEASE canvass. The DNC has stripped Florida of its delegates according to The Green Papers (http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/FL-D.phtml) Should be so easy to convert everyone to Paul, but it's a closed state and the party change deadline is Dec 31st :(

good thread ... this is the single most powerful way to counter the "he can't win" nonsense. There you are, standing in front of them, physical proof that somebody else is supporting "that old doctor guy they saw on tv talking such sense but who sean hannity said couldn't win". Just saying hello and offering a flyer combats the mis-representation.

Imagine wiping the smirk of Hannity's face. Imagine the smiles on the faces of people around the world as war stops.

Door to door is the best. Just the obvious, smile and be friendly and it will be fine :)

I had figured the meetup groups were doing this, but apparently not as much as i thought. We should have organized large scale door to door in each state already... my meetup group has had some door to doors, but only 5-6 people show up. We need ARMIES on the ground in ALL states. Its a big grassroots tactic in NH... but i havent heard as much about it in Iowa. WE NEED BOOTS ON THE GROUND!.. unfortunately i fear that we are identifying this as being critical WAY too late in the game. This could be so much more effective than any Tea Party (which barely got us 1 day of coverage). Get out and do what you can!

Maybe if someone put up a centralized web site tracking the number of doors knocked on in each state, or the number per Meetup, or the leading individual canvassers, this could become a friendly competition, and motivate people to try it.

Just one thing -

If someone comes to my door and pushes for one particular candidate, I'll just LIE and tell them that I WILL vote for that particular candidate. Just another way of getting rid of people.

So, I know you guys have been doing a great job, but just don't count on people based on what they say.

I don't like people coming to my door or calling me. Call me a hermit if you will.

I am glad you have been successful!

I was under the impression that majority of people were doing door to door canvassing. No wonder we still have name recognition problems. We will not win unless more people get out and start knocking on doors. We can't rely on the MSM to get the word out.

I ask them a few preliminary "survey questions" and decide whether to tell them about RP based on their answers. If I tell them about him and they seem certain they will vote for him, I tell them about the campaign asking people to give their contact info so that they can be reminded about the primaries, etc.

People who aren't sincere about RP aren't going to give me their phone number and email address. :P There are a lot of people who seem on the fence about RP, but not many people actually lie about liking him, IMHO.

If 70,000 Meetup supporters knock on just 100 doors, we will quickly reach 7 million households, and approximately 14 million voters. The numbers are staggering. Actually, breathtaking! Wow! Amazing!

Imagine the power of supporting our national campaign team with a national canvassing effort! If you just reach 7.2 households per day, in 14 days we're there!

No other campaign is doing it. Because no other candidate has the manpower to do it.

I think the best way to do this would be to...

1> Briefly explain that you are a concerned citizen trying to get information out about Ron Paul to your community.

2> Give them physical information (slim jim, dvd, whatever) to go over on their own time.

3> And then leave them be!!!! Unless they ask questions or show they wish to discuss further.

Interrupting their life is an inconvenience enough but DO NOT forcibly impose yourself/candidate on them by going over _everything_

Spark their natural curiousity intelligently.

I agree this is very important, but I would not say it is "easy". When you go door to door you will be outside of your comfort zone... but it is definitly worth it. The payoffs are worth significantly more than signs/tv ads/etc.

If someone wanted to make a job out of going door to door, I'd donate to a chip in. Might be sweet if they posted video of it on youtube (at x10 speed).

The things that matter right now are votes... primary votes. Door-to-door is probably the best way to ensure that (given you're actually mentioning to them that if they want to see Ron as a general election candidate he has to win the nomination and therefore they should vote in the primaries...)
