Must use an AOL screen name. Let's show everybody that we're real people and not spammers.

EDIT: Apparently you don't need an AOL screen name and apparently it's not 100% spam proof. Still it is a long running online "straw poll" and you should all vote. Thanks!

I'm not embarassed that I live in Alabama. I'm especially enthused that I live in Mobile, Alabama. We could have a direct effect on how the rest of the Feb 5th states vote since we vote on January 30th this year, RIGHT after Florida. We're the eighth location to vote in the United states with all the Feb 5th states being the ninth location. Unfortunately, the results won't be released until Feb 5th with the rest of the state, but I'm willing to bet you'll see more than 1 or 2 exit pollsters, especially if the race is tight at that point ;)

A bump is where you don't have really anything to say in a forum thread, like how I'm posting now. But, what it is for is "bumping" it to the top of the forum, seeing that the forum shows the topics by which one has most recently had a post on it. So I could just say....

Who is Ron Paul? I have never heard of him before. Is this a joke?
We all know that Huckabee is the winner...I saw it on CNN and Fox today. Huckabee knows that we will win in Iraq and blow up & capture those terrorists. They can't run from us! We need to stay over and secure the oil to make our economy stable. Anyone that wants to pull out of Iraq and doesn't like the way this country is run, should just get the heck out. You aren't patriotic and don't deserve to be a citizen if you don't like the way things are run.

Nick...a joke? The only laugh I get is seeing that map full of a noname canidate....the media relesed the reports that shows that Huckabee is the winner right now. The fact that the map is full of Ron Paul makes me think this whole thing is a joke.

The government is here protecting the people and you just can't question it when it is protecting you. You are biting the hand that feeds you. We are trying to make our women and children safe by capturing the terrorist and getting the weapons of destruction out of their hands.
A patriot is one that serves this country and protects it. We have to stay in Iraq to protect ourselves from the threat. A patriot does not question...do you question going into a burning building to safe your children? No. Support the troops.

1) Open primary that's meaningless for Dems - some might vote Ron on the war, some might vote him as the 'weakest challenger' in their minds, etc.

2) Clicking for Romney when logging onto AOL and trudging through a wintery day to vote for him are different things.

We should try our hardest to help Ron win. Really, really, really try our hardest.

But I don't think we need to worry.

PUT this on ronpaulforpresident2008.com! Blarghdy! Doooo it!

Since it seems almost certain that Huckabee is using his grassroots to get out the vote on this - I see no shame in doing the same. This poll, for better or worse, is going to become an amalgam of true AOL user support and grassroots ability to draw votes - might as well take up the challenge.

Kentucky is 4th from last in primaries, no one is campaigning here yet except for Ron Paul meet-ups that I have seen. Besides the perception of the poll its not competative here yet, plenty of time to turn it around.

Man there are some pissy people in those comments. One person said in all caps not to vote for Ron because he dropped out. How pathetic and desparate can you get? Overall the commenters love Ron.

I guess we're winning? :)

Also, the fact that the map says that Huckabee is winning in Kansas is really misleading, seeing as he is tied with RP for first.... amongst 5 votes. hahaha obviously a glitch there, hopefully they get it fixed.

edit: lost Oklahoma

Some interesting insights on the way people are thinking.

"terry green9:04PMDec 22nd 2007

we need someone to help us poor people that don't get enough help when the prices all go up and our benefits don't. all of them should live on what some of us live on. they couldn't possibly do it"

Wish there was a better way to spread the word about the dangers of our current monetary policy doing exactly what this person is seeing.

(but DON'T if it was agreed not to. I can't remember what the terms were with that list.)

It's not spamproof.
I voted in the poll.
Later in the day I cleaned my computer harddrive with the CCleaner program and Spybot and Adaware like I normally do.
Then I went back to check the poll results and I was able to vote again.
I'm not going to trust the results of this poll.

Any poll that uses cookies can be compromised. Any they can't do it by IP since often companies only have a single public IP for hundreds, thousands or even ten of thousands of users. With ANY form of electronic voting, there is NO way to prevent fraud 100%.

Only hand-written/signed paper ballots would be secure. With surveilance footage of the person writing it. :)

I think that this poll is a good indication, but it isn't 100%.

Gah, this really does look like what it probably is right now in this country. We're in trouble if any of the other 6 except for Hunter and Huckabee drop out. Their supporters could put their endorsed candidate within range of Dr. Paul.

Ron Paul - 28% (7,936)
Giuliani - 17% (4,987)
Huckabee - 16% (4,702)
Romney - 15% (4,281)
McCain - 14% (3,903)
Thompson - 9% (2,438)
Hunter - 1% (304)

Yeah it's not perfect, but I would think it would be close to accurate. Most people only know about cookies you eat, let alone know that their browser stores them and they can get rid of them. I only voted once...hopefully other Paul supporters did the same.

acmegeek
12-22-2007, 11:32 PM
Yes, I'm sure it is very close, 98%+... I'm sure there have been a little double-voting from all camps.

I too only voted once.

rothnic
12-22-2007, 11:35 PM
I figure with the more and more votes, the harder for anyone to make a difference with spamming it before getting bored by it first. With over 25,000 votes it would be hard to change it very much.

doogles15
12-22-2007, 11:40 PM
I don't think you can actually vote twice. I tested it by voting in Kansas (only 7 votes currently). Not sure what the lag is on the voting, but its been about 10 minutes since I voted a few times and it is still at 7. Maybe they weed out duplicates from IP, which makes it a little better.

I haven't tried, but I'm pretty sure that deleting all of your cookies would allow you to vote more than once. And limiting by IP just wouldn't be too smart since there are too many examples of many people being represented by a single IP....

The truth here is a little bit harder to find. As a developer I know things about flash media that would reflect your experience of deleting regular cookies and still voting once. PM me for info if you want, I don't want to publish any info as I don't condone double-voting. And I'm sure Dr. Paul wouldn't either. But technically it is possible.
