I have been trying to fix this problem for weeks, and it's driving me insane. My Internet will not work if I'm using wireless, or Ethernet. If I connect to the Internet using either, it takes forever while it's saying "acquiring network address." It then says that I'm connected with "limited or no connectivity." It will not allow me to bring up the Internet.

The ONLY way it works, is if I connect to a wireless network-- or plug the cable Ethernet in-- and then restart my computer. Once my computer boots back up, I'm able to surf the Internet. However, it only works for 1 minute to 3 hours, and then it boots me off the Internet again. If I reconnect to a network, it says "limited or no connectivity" and won't allow me to surf the net. If I try to "repair" the network, it gets stuck on the "renewing your IP address" part and then says "windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action could not be taken: renewing your IP address." If I reboot the computer, it works again, but only for a minute to 3 hours.

The Ethernet goes through a NVIDIA nforce Networking card and the wireless uses a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Network Adapter with speedbooster.

I get the same problem at work, as I do at home. Everyone else's computers at work do just fine, and my roommates computers at home do just fine. I don't know what to try. I think it's a software issue, but don't know what to change. My computer used to work fine on any network, but it started acting up 2 months ago. It used to boot me off every few days, and then I'd have to restart the computer to get it to work. It then progressed up to once a day, then twice a day. Now I'm lucky if I can get the Internet to work for 3 hours.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Try reinstalling your wireless/ethernet drivers, or upgrading to the newest version.

uh, maybe this'll help.

go to start>run, and type "cmd"

in the command prompt that appears, type "chkdsk /x" , that is chkdsk [space] /x

when prompted, type "y", restart your computer, and let checkdisk run on reboot.

This is on the off chance that your problem is due to a disk error.

dslreports - they're pretty good at fixing set up problems. I had to bridge my modem.

It's a Windows thing.

thanks! I read that page and DL'd his XP registry fix thingy-- that seems to have solved everything. I'm guessing that Spybot or AIM Ad-Hack screwed with something and that's why I was having problems.
