Mmmuuuuu Waaaa Haaaa Haaaaaa........
Hey other bought and paid for and lame candidates, how do you like these apples....?
It's like a nightmare isn't it? And it just keeps getting worse. (source: pool player in movie, The Color of Money).
OK,
First, thanks to Mark, John Barr, Linda Lagana, Bryan, Brad Tirpak, Suzu, LibertyEagle, Anti-Federalist, Lucid American, LSUilike, Nathan Yao, and others whose names I have forgotten. Thank you to everyone for your contributions. Smart people on these forums.
Let me just say that I could never write a letter of this quality on my own. Never. This is a testament to the this "open source" campaign model. Lot's of bright people makes for a better advertisement than any one individual could ever produce.
Now, here is the good part:
This advertisment is going to run as a full page in The New York Times.
It will be in the News section. I do not know the date. In order to keep the cost affordable they have the option on the date. The range is Dec. 24th to Dec. 29th.
It is also going to run in all of the major New Hampshire papers on Friday, Dec. 28th.
The advertisement is a cleaned up version of the piece I wrote for Lew Rockwell explaining why I spent $85 K on the USA Today advertisement.
It is full page, six columns, about 3000 words. with bolds and set outs.
Here is the link courtesy of Mark.
http://ronpaul.cc/LLLetterNYT.pdf
here is another better link (thanks Mark, u da man.)
http://ronpaul.cc/LLLetterNYT.htm
The best way to view it is to print it out in 4 piece tile and then tape them together so you get the effect of full size.
This is it folks. We need traction now, it's now or never.
You cannot say we are not trying. Let's spread this thing as far and wide as we can.
Also, let's use key buzzwords in talking about this:
Politcal Campaign 2.0
Open source web based campaign message development model
Internet is the Gutenberg press of our day.
The tide has turned.
RP support is spreading like a wildfire.
President Ron Paul. You gotta believe.
Compare this argument to Thomas Paine's Common Sense.
Citizen's revolt.
Others?
Anyway, I need to rest now. I will probably not be on the forums much for the next few weeks.
God bless you all and god bless Dr. Paul and this message. It's in his hands now.
I wish I could see the other candidates as they read this.
I am reminded of the old rolling stones song off the black and blue album.
"The hand of fate is on us now..."
This is my best effort, I don't think I can do much more.
Jobarra

Terrible ad. If it takes 3,000 words to explain to anyone why they should vote for Ron Paul we're sunk.
But you know what - the spirit behind it is much bigger than 3,000 words on paper.
I'm very glad that exists, because that is what will win the election.

It's all good.I know there must be some other wealthy individuals out there helping Ron but why aren't there more and why don't they have the balls you do and are willing to put their names out front like you have? In your business you must meet these types.
.
Ok wait a minute. I know you're going to do this, but please take out the scissors and the cut-out marks. PLEASE. That's an ancient advertising symbol usually reserved for COUPONS. It seriously detracts from the seriousness of the message. Nobody is going to cut the thing out and stick it on their wall! (okay, cept maybe ronpaulforums members, but seriously. get rid of that.)

I am puzzled by this too. Maybe they just need an example. Some have stepped forward.
There was a businessman in Texas, I have forgotten his name, he paid for the USA Today Adv. to run in Iowa. Lots of others have run that adv. too.
I sure wish some others would pick up the ball. I am getting winded.

NO.
It is a requirement of the NY Times that we make it look like, not news.
The suggestion came from the forum.
If we had our choice we would just put it on the left, but the NYT would not accept that.
Originally they wanted us to run it in Arial type. UGH. They have a policy that things cannot look too much like news.
I told them to take our font or it was no deal. They compromised if we would put the cut out border in there.
I don't like it, but I decided I could live with it.

Everyone print out the original USA today ad and this one. Every morning on the way to work buy a newspaper. Insert these two ads somewhere inside the pages. Leave the paper somewhere where it will be read by others. Do this daily. Vary your routine. Leave it on a tables at various fast food restaurants. Leave it in convenience store restrooms. Leave them in dentist offices, in doctor's offices, in hospital waiting rooms, etc.

I'm glad you stuck to your guns and left it "wordy". I had previously read it in LRC and liked it that way, instead of bulletized, slicko marketing format. It was you. It was us. It was real, from the heart, and people can tell by reading it that this is a real person, and you were appealing to real people.
Same as I like how Ron Paul talks in his common sense, instructional manner, instead of slick political sound bytes and platitudes.
I had thrown some tips your way, looks like some of them got in there, whether by mine or someone else's recommendation, it don't matter. The mission is what matters.

Hello llepard,
You are extraordinary! But there IS more that you can consider doing for Dr. Paul and our country.
Dr. Paul badly needs a high-quality authorized video ad that explains his 'Just War' philosophy - for the specific purpose of showing that he can be tough specifically against Osama bin Laden (who is still alive after TRILLIONS wasted on the wars and thousands of American soldiers maimed or killed) hopefully in the same way that the 'authorities' hunted down the killers at the Olympics - one by one, ruthlessly.
The most important goal of this ad is to steal votes from Guiliani, and to convert them into votes for Dr. Paul - ultimately winning for him the Republican nomination. This ad is absolutely essential towards achieving that goal.
Storyboard suggestion: A man (Matt Damon) comes into focus. He says: "I am voting for Ron Paul. I completely agree with his "Just War" philosophy. Dr. Paul firmly believes that we should go after the individuals who attacked us on 9/11 - but not have to invade and occupy other countries in doing so. Some of you may know me as Jason (Bourne). There are many other Americans such as I (a crowd of Americans of different ethnicities appear behind him - each wearing dark sunglasses [a good Oakley product placement] and not smiling) - we totally agree with Dr. Paul that there is a better way of dealing with terrorists. (Matt sits down, hands out of view checking firearms - sounds clicking in the background, talking continuously. Camera focuses on Matt's face) Make no mistake about it - Dr. Paul can be as tough as I am on terrorists. Dr. Paul advocates a CONSTITUTIONAL WAY of defending America. Vote for your freedom! Vote for Ron Paul!
Dr. Paul then appears (not smiling much) and says that he approved the message.
Matt Damon is strongly against the Iraq war. If you search YouTube you will even see him stating that Bush's of-age offspring should also be shipped off to Iraq. Some other actor may suffice if he is not 'available'.
I hope this idea resonates with you all because it will certainly be pivotal for Dr. Paul in winning the Republican nomination. We have to dispel the common notion that Dr. Paul is a sweet, totally non-aggressive pacifist - he does look and sound that way, honestly. There is a saying 'when the going gets tough...' Can the public count on Dr. Paul to defend them against aggressors? We have to answer those doubts.
Thank you, and God Bless You Sir.

1-800-RON-PAUL goes to the congressional office in Texas. I am not sure the number in this ad goes anywhere.
I just called all 3 numbers:
1-877-RON-PAUL goes directly to headquarters and puts you on hold to speak to a representative.
1-877-RON-2008 is affiliated with Ron Paul but you need to know your party's extension. If you don't know an extension, you can leave a message.
1-800-Ron2008 is seemingly unaffiliated. It's an automated message about loan financing
I didn't call 1-800-RON-PAUL because I agree with you on that.

Great stuff, and a testament not only to the breadth of our support, but the intelligence and sensitivity with which we are able to convey the message of this letter.
Ron Paulites are the most enlightened of a nation handicapped by its public education and mass media, but the speed at which America is being educated by Paul and his supporters is nothing short of staggering.
I do happen to have a suggestion for anybody out there with relatively deep pockets: a method to combat vote fraud as far as is humanly possible. (After all, this will be America's last chance, unfortunately, before its citizens are compelled to go to war with its own police and military on its own soil.)
I have outlined a basic all-purpose idea to reduce the risk of vote fraud, to increase the likelihood of detection, and facilitate evidencing gathering. It doesn't come close to a real paper trail, of course, but increased participation in its execution would increase its utility to a theoretical point of being at least half as good.

Some really good ideas one can take from that. No reason someone else can't take it and run with it. LLepard's ad and your TV ad can both be realized.

Dunno..when he raises his hand and yells out "NO"! I see fire in his eyes..but last night I was watching his Lincolnesque walk and Churchill-like calm and I was thinking how darned Presidential he looked. He is VERY strong in his convictions, and his resistance to outside burocratic influences. He just may be the strongest President we have had, in years! No need for guns in the background. This is no longer our image. Maybe we can finally get the Natiional Anthem changed to America the Beautiful..LOL

At first I didnt like the font or the amount of Text.
But if it matches the rest of the newspaper it is good. People will look at it more if it looks like the paper. It looks like newspaper text to me.
Mmmuuuuu Waaaa Haaaa Haaaaaa........
Hey other bought and paid for and lame candidates, how do you like these apples....?
It's like a nightmare isn't it? And it just keeps getting worse.
OK,
First, thanks to Mark, John Barr, Linda Lagana, Bryan, Brad Tirpak, Suzu, LibertyEagle, Anti-Federalist, Lucid American, LSUilike, Nathan Yao, and others whose names I have forgotten.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
This is it folks. We need traction now, it's now or never.
You cannot say we are not trying. Let's spread this thing as far and wide as we can.
Also, let's use key buzzwords in talking about this:
Political Campaign 2.0
Open source web based campaign message development model
Internet is the Gutenberg press of our day.
The tide has turned.
RP support is spreading like a wildfire.
President Ron Paul. You gotta believe.
Compare this argument to Thomas Paine's Common Sense.
Citizen's revolt.
Others?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~

Thank you so much for the precious seed that you have given us! And thanks to all who supported the effort and offered input and posted posts. Nothing this wonderful happens overnight and yet it almost feels that way! I keep seeing the picture of Dr. Paul holding the baby wrapped in a flag. . .
My challenge to us all is to go forth and multiply. Spread the message of Life and Liberty to all we meet.

I think you do the message some disservice by appropriating your "subjective" views over the complexities of the issues in their entirety. If I were to proof read this, I'd advise revising some of the "preachy" content in favor of extrapolating some of the issues which demand more scrutiny.
Nevertheless, the sincerity and the dedication oozes from this ad. Kudos.
Great work! To spend $85,000 on this ad shows your dedication and how important this message really is. Hopefully, readers will recognize your great sacrifice and be intrigued as to what could be so important to a private citizen that he would spend $85,000 of his own money to promote it.

Fair point. But keep in mind that it is a sales document.
Also, the message is good. People can blame me for the preachyness.
Dr. Paul would not say some of these things, but I can and should. Americans think in these terms. Or at least many of them do.

The message is indeed good, but I think in the middle it was a bit lost! Remember, the sales document also needs to sell something and the superfluous language (in the middle) I hope won't deviate from the noble intentions of this wonderful ad.
I actually am inclined to think one of Dr. Paul's most convincing platform are his economic viewpoints.

one question. At the bottom of the first paragraph you mention that Ron wanted to go after the culprits... but didn't he actually legislation forward titled: Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001.. I got the impression that you might be saying "yeah, he wanted to go after the terrorists".. but to me, everyone did.. they just didn't realize it was a country that was the target.. just a thought.
by mentioning specifics shows he had foresight AND a solution... yet, he was ignored...

Phone number is still incorrect. 1-877-RON-PAUL. Call it for yourself and see why it is better than 1-877-RON-2008
P.S. The 1-877-RON-PAUL number is also the one that Carol Paul gave out in her recorded message.
I've called all the numbers. 1-877-RON-2008 (not 1-877-Ron2008) is an office number that greets callers with a request to specify the extension they want; not welcoming.
1-877-RON-PAUL is the best number; it has a real greeting, information about the website, then asks caller to leave a message that will be returned within 24 hours.
As noted, it is also the number in Carol Paul's telephone message:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hf0I2AjT1I
Clearly 1-877-RON-PAUL is the number the Campaign wants the public to use, though it doesn't get to a real person immediately (apparently the only number that does that is the toll number on the website contact page: 703-248-9115).
Other than the phone number the ad is great; long and dense, yes, but that fits The New York Times perfectly; its audience actually knows how to read, and does.
But please change the phone number; 1-877-RON-PAUL is much better for callers and better for the Campaign.

The article is great. It reads full of passion yet it is very concise. I love it.
I just have one little grammatical nit-pick.
"If it sounds like I am angry. That is right. "
The use of period doesn't seem correct. "If it sounds like I am angry" is not a complete sentence.
IMHO it would read better "If this sounds angry, it's because I am angry." or "If it sounds to you like I am angry, you are right."
But, the message is clear as written and no one will stop reading because the grammar might not be 100% correct.

I have just finished reading this whole letter.
Though most of us can not afford to have this printed as a full page ad in your local Newspapers --WHERE IT SHOULD BE!...I am having hundreds of copies printed up and I am going to plaster them everywhere I can on Long Island. I have just told my meet-up members to do the same.
This letter represents the true reason why Ron Paul has our support. People need to know this. People need to know why ordinary folks from all over the country have woken up and taken the last money out of their pockets --forgoing personal needs-- in order to support this man on his road to the White House.
I feel the Mr. Lepard is a true patriot and angel.
Thank you Mr. Lepard for this most generous of Christmas Gifts to all of us --Ron Paul supporters and the American people.

LL,
Thanks for the ads. I’m late to RPF but I’m going to jump right in with my 2 cents worth.
Never (with one exception) use the word “government,” instead use the words, “politicians and bureaucrats.” It will require some linguistic gymnastics but it’s worth the effort.
In the post 9-11 world, the word “government” (because it’s American) gets a pass from many people. The words “politicians and bureaucrats” are not accorded the same treatment.
For example, from your NY Times ad…
Does our government really represent the American people? Many people would argue that it does.
But phrase it this way…
Do politicians and bureaucrats really represent the American people? Very few would argue that they do. There are countless other examples.
The one exception to never using the word government? When defining what government really is.
Define what government is, politicians and bureaucrats and hammer away at politicians and bureaucrats.
I believe Ron Paul’s success lies in discrediting politicians and bureaucrats, not the government.

Thank you SO much Lawrence!
I assume by "all major NH newspapers," it's going in The Union Leader, Concord Monitor, Nashua Telegraph, Keene Sentinel and the Portsmouth Herald. Any other ones?
Also, does anyone have links to the final ad? The links in the OP were broken. :(
Have I mentioned lately how great it is to be side by side with all of you fighting this good fight? :D

The link worked for me earlier, but the image will no longer load for me. I posted the link on another forum and others weren't able to read it. Anyone else having this problem?

Great article. One crit: I would think it beneficial to add your picture to the article. It is not uncommon for Op-Ed pieces to have a pic of the author in major newspapers. Even Real Estate agents add their pic to listings. I think this is done to make the piece seem more human to the reader and allows a connection to be made between both parties. A pic of your family [or both pics] would be effective IMO as well.
Great job, and thx!

Yeah, adds to the personal letter (vs. professional advertisement) factor.

Better to just let the message speak for itself. Not necessary, not recommended.

Llepard...
You are the best. Llepard for VP! :)
I wouldn't see it as bragging... but maybe others have input on this subject... does anyone else think a higher amount would be seen as bragging or as a huge sacrifice?
I think it should say the amount that he actually spent on the previous add. The truth can never be wrong.
