Nixon was disappointed with the selection of Thompson, whom he called "dumb as hell." The president did not think Thompson was skilled enough to interrogate unfriendly witnesses and would be outsmarted by the committee's Democratic counsel.

"Oh s---, that kid," Nixon said when told by his chief of staff, H.R. Haldeman, of Thompson's appointment on Feb. 22, 1973.

"Well, we're stuck with him," Haldeman said.

Excellent idea not mentioning Ron Paul's name in the digg description. Let that part surprise 'em. :D

Is anyone else surprised at how quickly all these "skeletons in the closet" are popping up about Fred Thompson? I figured his aura would wear off after entering the race, but he hasn't even entered yet and already we're hearing about past inconsistencies on abortion, etc.

I can't help but wonder if Thompson will end up crashing and burning if he enters the race. Maybe that's why he hasn't entered it yet. Wasn't he supposed to announce his candidacy around July 4th?
