We need anybody interested in being a board member for a given state or region for a new effort towards developing a syndicated, nationwide TV News network that will feature conservative, libertarian-themed/interpreted news, 24/7. If you'd like to join with us, please check out this thread, and indicate your interest:

For board members? No, but we will eventually be hiring competent and PATRIOTIC technical staff.

Why do the minimum qualifications cite a college degree?

40% of entrepreneurs have a High School diploma or less according to the National Federation of Independent Business.
Some notable are:
Bill Gates
Michael Dell
Ted Turner
Barry Diller
Wolfgang Puck
Robert Redford
Andrew Carnegie
John D. Rockefeller
Thomas Edison
Henry Ford
Ray Kroc
Carl Lindler
David Murdock
Vidal Sassoon
Richard Branson
Jim Clark
Kemmons Wilson
Jimmy Dean
and don't forget the Wright Brothers.

First of all, in the interest of accurateness, it also say "or well on the way to a college degree."

Anything posted there is pretty much tentative. But, in order to be a member of an incorporated board we want people with at least some evidence of maturity and a modicum of intelligence. You've cited some of the rare examples, but putting this together through the internet without meeting each other AT ALL in advance we need something basic to go on. For every success story you have cited, there are a million such people who have made nothing of themselves or are in jail.

Would you donate to, or work for, an outfit with a bunch of high school dropouts as board members?

Not to mention, legally you can't even serve until you are 18.

SteveMartin
12-20-2007, 08:28 AM
OK...we have 7 board members so far...Lots more needed!

Our first project will be to raise money for a RP poll that polls from ALL Republicans and ALL Independents, nationally, and also a state-specific one for NH. We will NOT be polling only those who voted for the Bushwacker in the last primary; We will publicize the results aggressively if they are significantly different from the other polls.

We will have the site up soon
(www.TheFreedomNetwork.us) with a "chipin" widget for our first project.

GET INVOLVED NOW while the ground floor is being built.

Pure tripe. College is babysitting for rich brats unless a hard science, engineering or math degree is gone for. Computer sciences are best handled by getting the software and learning the latest version so you are marketable. Marketing? Pleease..Arts?..Please..yer either have a god given talent or not.. psychology?..pffft..smoke a joint and think..Philosophy..I think, therefore I am.. Foreign languages..a five year old can do that too..Literature..we all read books and reflect on their meanings.. Just what degrees do you think are important?

Pretty snotty of you to dismiss the other posters list in your offhanded manner. So I thought I would set the record clear about what this thinking adult has to say about the revered but reviled college degree. Ain't never met one with one that was smarter than me. I also find this post very demeaning and would never support anyone that would cast judgement on others with such a closed minded approach.

So I guess none of the millions of military members who served 20-30 years would be good enough for you SteveMartin? These people have more leadership skills then 90% of any college educated people you could find but to you they have not shown at least some evidence of maturity and a modicum of intelligence I guess.

You want to exclude non college people but you want their money? Are you serious?

This is a great idea but this SteveMartin fellow should apologize for such arrogant remarks.

Edit: His remarks also reminds me of the old argument between intelligence vs common senese. While it is obvious SteveMartin has gone to college as he would like to exclude those who have not, his above post shows he lacks common sense, for to write such a post in an a thread meant to attract people and to suggest not going to college equates to not making anything of oneself clearly points out his own deficiencies in making common sense judgements.

SteveMartin

As someone with a computer science degree, I have to disagree with your assessment that computer science is "best handled by getting the software and learning the latest version so you are marketable".

But I guess you know everything, so who am I to talk.

I don't have a college degree and I do alright for myself. I success is measured in monetary terms, I have not made less than 70K a year since 1999. In 2005 I was out of work for 4 months and still managed a modest 100K.

I'm working on a management degree here at the University of Iowa.

Seriously though, you can weed out the week later, those that want to contribute shouldn't be prevented from doing so in the early stages

What?

Look, we don't need a duplicate effort. This one was set up a week before you guys even started talking about LibertyTV (or whatever you eventually decide to call it.) If there was any evidence you all were further ahead or more organized despite the idea being taken from us over RonPaul.Meetup.com, I'd be glad to fold this into that. But it certainly looks the other way around should prevail from here.

If you don't have the word power in the name right off, you'll never get where you want. "Freedom Network" screams heavy right-winger and automatically cuts you out from major demographics.

Word power is the name of the game, if you haven't figure that out yet, this is doomed from the start.

I think you should split texas North and South. Not a lot out west....El Paso can be in with New Mexico probably.

I just answered honestly. This project predates that one, and is much further along at present from what I am seeing.

I know you answered honest. I was referring to
the future of your Idea:

"Is this something like the FreedomNetwork.US?"
"Nope, never heard about that."

Nice to see our posts over at the official meetup message boards are being read over here too....

 Not by me.

Anyway: What's your business-plan so far?

We may split into more than that even, but for right now the terms "East Texas" and "West Texas" are more prevalent than "North Texas" and "South Texas."

Current business plan:

Sign up a minimum of 12 board members (done)
Start bare bones website (done)
Sign up board members from all 50 states (coming along nicely...)
Begin bi-weekly conference calls to develop goals, strategies and a business plan (expected to begin within two months)

This is not going to be a "top down" approach. The board members will develop everything.

I came here and started posting about 6 weeks ago. TFN was launched 12-6, the Liberty TV idea was borrowed on 12-11.

As I have said before, I really don't care which project folds into the other, but this MUST eventually happen, and it should probably entail the one that is further ahead at that juncture, remaining.

I have sent you an e-mail on meetup regarding this. I want to help, i have experience closely related to this field. This is not going to be easy to pull off and i know you need all the help you can get. I have a few suggestions.

TV News network that will feature conservative, libertarian-themed/interpreted news, 24/7.

You Know I would like to see a Jack Webb news network. Just the facts mamm, just the facts.

Hasan,

What is "liberty news?"

I'm willing to cooperate with any and all patriots who want to get this done, don't get me wrong, but my personal focus right now needs to be on pushing forward, and not worrying about what others may (or may not) be doing.

hasan
12-22-2007, 09:58 AM
ok i understand. once the freedom news is up and running we can worry abt collaboration. may i suggest since a lot of our participants may be university students we create sub positions for each state and order them by university name?

Everyone continue the discussion at http://www.ronpaulforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=242

I suggest everyone go to the liberty project and look at the some of the original threads on this board that Steve Martin posted in and exercise a little bit of free thinking.

Ditto here. I don't trust him since I read this and
the "Poll Project" thread from him. My impression
is that it is about money, not Dr. Paul.

Oliver

Also: My other impression is that he's not acting alone.
He has some loyal supporters for his Ideas.

why dont we create a poll to decide which one of the projects would best serve ron paul and truthful news?

What would you need to do to make this into a TV channel on cable or satellite networks? Just curious if anyone knows?

I'd really like to support something like that if possible. Formation of a libertarian-type news channel. We can run head-on commercials and late night informercials for George Forman grills to keep revenue flowing ;)

But in all seriousness, think of all the cool things we could do with our own channel. We could have in-depth commentary on libertarian candidates running for office state by state for Congress, etc.... we could get in special speakers on abuses of government, fiscal policy, economic crises, etc, and really open the eyes of the people.

With the new HDTV coming out locally nationwide ... maybe we should see what's needed to bid on spectrum or whatever to buy our own airwaves! We can start small opening a show in one metro area like Los Angeles, and then work our way bigger as we get stronger.

Frigging one trick pony specialists for the most part.

Randy

We're not too far apart on the basic purpose of government schooling. A degree is simply a license from the government proving that you've willingly allowed the state to indoctrinate you in exchange for providing you with the means (diploma) to earn a good living. The higher the degree, the more capacity for indoctrination, and I don't necessarily equate capacity or tenacity in this context with intelligence. :) However, a modicum of indoctrination does imply that you're more likely to remain in line with similar "thinkers". I'm partly joking ... partly ... ;)
