I've been PM'ing local North Carolinians about the delegate process but every time, someone tells me they're meeting with so-and-so or they have a plan to do so-and-so and they'll get back to me...but it never happens. I've read the technical writing but it's confusing to me about WHEN the delegates are chosen, whether they have to be declared for Ron Paul right away, and whether delegates are ultimately chosen based on percent of votes cast (e.g. if 20% for Bob and 80% for Bill, then Bob gets 2 delegates and Bill gets 8) or if it's a winner-takes-all kinda deal.

If you'd be so kind as to write up a post answering these questions and specifying which meeting or meetings we need to be going to in order to become delegates, I'd be so, so appreciative.

The delegates are chosen in February/March at the Precinct Convention, then those Delegates are eligable to be elected at the County Convention (these occurr on the same day, same location in my county) then half those go to the District Convention in April and Half go to the State Convention in May. and heres the official schedule from the Ron Paul Site http://www.ronpaul2008.com/states/north-carolina

when do you declare for a candidate?-
Article 7.F.
... Each person nominated as a Delegate or an Alternate at either the District or State Convention...."must have publicly declared as a representative of a Candidate on the ... Primary ballot prior to the election of Delegates and Alternates to the National Convention"

I guess some people may need to announce it at teh county convention just to get a vote, i dont know.

We will have 69 Delegates
"(e.g. if 20% for Bob and 80% for Bill, then Bob gets 2 delegates and Bill gets 8) or if it's a winner-takes-all kinda deal."

proportional - if you have the delegates elected up to the point through the conventions. then the primary vote % are proportioned among the top vote getters above 15%. thats my understanding of it.

The way i understand it is that the District Convention will have 39 delegates elected in April that are seperate from the rest that get elected at the State Primary Election May 6.

but this is why we need to seat delegates all the way from the Precinct Convention, because delegates can only be elected that were elected in the previous-level Convention (unless theres not enough delegates there to fill all the seats i guess.

Many delegates, i suspect, get certified simply because theres noone else to fill the seats at that particular convention as in this thread: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=7764

(NOTE - Some counties have their own Plan of Orginization - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=63912)

For some more info about delegates, check out my post in this thread http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=21285
