View Full Version : If there is no company to donate to, then doesn't donating violate FEC rules?

Now that the blimp company seems to have disappeared, and no one will answer who owns the blimp company, doesn't it violate FEC laws to give this no-name company money to support a blimp that is only flying with Ron Paul's name on it?

Any FEC specialists out there who can answer this?

I thought the whole idea of having a for-profit company was to avoid problems with the FEC.

If any of us donate now, couldn't we theoretically get into trouble for violating FEC donation laws? I thought for anything this expensive you had to have at least a PAC or something.

Now, they won't even tell us if they have formed a new company or what the name of that company is.

Is that why you are trying to take in money under no name at all, so if the sh*t hits the fan, you will be far away but we will be left holding the bag?

Or will it end up that every dime we donate directly to this company is a dime that comes off the amount we are allowed to give to Ron Paul, so anyone maxed out better not donate anything at all or you could find yourself in a lot of trouble?

Please relax. There is a company. Liberty Political Advertising still exists and has lawyers on retainer, etc...

A few hours ago she replied, that she can't reveal any details for legal reasons and she will tell them after we wait 3 days or so. She refused to answer what happened to LLC, who owns it, why it was completely removed from the page and she refused to say what company she actually works for. For legal reasons.
And now out of nowhere she says everything is like it was? What the hell is going on here?

So then why isn't the name on any page of the website? Why did you remove it?

Isn't this a Q & A section? If the company still exists and all your money is going to LPA, then why isn't your name on the website? I am sorry, but your actions seem to counter your responses. I don't mean to attack, but this is important so that no one gets in trouble with the FEC.

I also read that anyone who donates to the blimp must count it against the 2300 that goes to the campaign and are supposed to be filling out forms for these donations.

McKarnin, with all due respect, you said the company Liberty Political Advertising still exists and has lawyers on retainer. So how come when I go to Google checkout to donate to LPA, it says this:

Order Details - RonPaulBlimpTour, 305 710-7344, 650 Pennsylvania Ave, #25, Miami Beach, FL 33139 US
Qty Item Price
1 Sponsorship of the Ron Paul Blimp Tour - Fly the Ron Paul Blimp to the Inauguration! $25.00

Estimated Tax : $0.00

Notice how LPA has changed to Ron Paul Blimp Tour and the state in which the company is located has mysteriously moved to Florida. How is it that these are the same companies? And what happens to all the people that have donated while it says this new brand name? Are they going to get into trouble with the FEC? These folks are no longer donating to a for-profit company, they are donating to a project. Isn't that what PACs are for? You are way over the legal limit for a project done without a PAC. Nothing on your website addresses this inconsistency.

This is very important and could mean trouble for the donors and possibly FEC trouble for the RP campaign itself. Tell me where I am misunderstanding the situation.

Dude!

I don't have any information about this, but in the absence of an explanation, I'm guessing that this probably isn't the first time an advertising company has used the word Liberty in their name or a product name, and they may have been sent a cease and desist order by the owner of a trademark.

Calling it The Jerry Collette Advertising Company would be my suggestion. You wouldn't have any trademark infringement possibilities and having the owner's name in there shows accountability.

4 days. To avoid further time wasted on this issue, simply put up a list of the individuals who signed the LLC.

Our questions have been answered. The team is working hard today to find a nylon flag to put on the blimp.
