We started our Denver Ron Paul group (http://ronpaul.meetup.com/26/?gj=sj5)via MeetUp.com just two weeks ago and we have 31 members.
I would highly recommend this site...and the basic service is FREE.
I've been promoting the MeetUp group using Craigslist by posting in their Groups or Political sections.
We also have an invitiation only yahoogroup that we ask our new MeetUp members to join right away so that they can be part of our planning and strategy from the beginning.
