Presidential contender Ron Paul is winning in the pop world of eBay. When it comes to sell-through rate, and dollars generated on the site, this relative unknown is creaming Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Rudy Giuliani. If you want know what to sell on eBay, with an astounding 79.41% conversion rate, it seems Ron Paul merchandise is a hit.

Ron Paul is Bill Maher’s new hero

I started seeing Ron Paul’s name here and there and found he has an incredibly loyal following. Then I saw a video on YouTube with Bill Maher interviewing Mr. Paul and Bill seems to really like him. The next logical step for an eBay seller like myself was to see how he was doing on eBay. The sell-through, or conversion rate for Ron Paul was outstanding to me. Nearly 80% of Ron Paul items on eBay sell, as opposed to 33% for Hillary, 35% for Barack Obama, 30% for Mitt Romney, and 21% for Rudy Giuliani. That’s not all though…

What the chart shows to eBay Sellers

I did searches of all the presidential candidates who’ve officially declared their candidacy, for the week of June 27 - July 3, 2007. This chart shows a few important things to eBay sellers. As a seller you really have to look at more than the sell-through rate to determine which bandwagon to jump on. For example, Tommy Thompson has a 50% sell-through rate, but with only 4 items in the past seven days, that’s not gonna buy you dinner in downtown Milwaukee. So we need to look at a combination of sell-through, volume, and average price to really know where to turn. Hillary Clinton turns up most often with 396 over the seven day period, but her sell-through rate is only 33%. If you listed 100 different Hillary Clinton items you’d be relisting 66 of them at week’s end. Our boy Ron Paul however with only 136 items for the week stomped the competition with an 80% conversion rate. So if you listed 100 Ron Paul items, you’d only be relisting 20. And when the average price is figured in (Hillary’s is $15.48 and Ron’s is $24.92) well, there’s just no comparison. Ron Paul wins the eBay 2008 Presidential Race for this week with $3988 in total sales, and Hillary Clinton is the runner-up with $2307.

Terapeak

I used Terapeak Marketplace Research to get the results shown. Terapeak is an eBay Research Tool which provides an incredible array of information for sellers looking for trends in the eBay marketplace. Terapeak is an eBay Certified Solutions Provider and focuses exclusively on eBay. The data you can research goes back two years! Included in the categories available for your research are Parts and Accessories in eBay Motors. I wholeheartedly recommend Terapeak as a research tool for your business, or I suppose for your polling data.

Come back next week!

I had so much fun doing this that I plan to run the same searches again next week and post them here. So come back and see how the race is going next weekend.

cool, but I'm not happy. I'm not comfortable with for-profit Ron Paul merchandisers like this would seem to suggest as viable.

I'm all for more RP swag, but this has me a bit wary.

Don't knock the free market.

i don't mean to knock the free market. I'm just worried that people who don't really know who Ron Paul is will be selling his stuff. Obviously, the market will correct itself, but there's still gonna be a few people who get "Vote Rob Paul", "Dr. Know" and "Ron Paul rETRIbution" signs.

If you're unhappy with the profits, compete with him :p

Most of the stuff being sold is just supporters who bought in bulk and want to sell off the extra to make their money back after they bought more/made more than they needed (giving them a lower per unit cost).....

I have been active on there, and most people dont even seem to be out to make money, but rather promote Dr. Paul through proliferation of paraphernalia.

I asked the campaign if they had any extra cookbooks, because I could sell those on eBay and raise money, but I got no answer.

I love this. It has the spirit of Ron Paul all over it. If you don't like the signs or the prices, then make your own and sell them cheaper. Other candidates want to control this type of thing, because they don't have enough confidence in their message. They are afraid of being misrepresented. Ron Paul has lots of confidence in the free market, and we see how it is working all over the campaign. This is the type of thing we can expect from a Ron Paul presidency: Lots of volunteers, lots of creativity, lots of business opportunity, and lots of passion.

I have no concerns whatsoever as to Ron Paul supporters being taken advantage of. The SOCIALISTS are the ones who need Big Brother to protect them from their own poor purchases. Right now Ron Paul promo items are HOT HOT HOT. And they are selling for CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP because there is so much passion behind the sales. Anyone who wants to make a big profit margin will be instantly undercut by over a dozen phsycotic Ron Paul supporters who would sell their left kidney for the man and his message (myself included).

I think this is a great thing. The high sales rate = high support rate. Isn't there a measure that says that the candidate who sales the most rubber mask wins the general election every year?

Who would want to spend any money for Hitlery or Obooba? lol!
